Whilst trawling through Sytner's pre-owned offerings recently (they run my local dealership) I spotted a MY05 CLS 55k, well spec'd, low miles, dealer history. I made an enquiry but was ultimately told that it had failed their inspection and they would not be able to sell it and it would be disposed of elsewhere. I asked why it failed but the salesman couldn't or wouldn't tell me. It duly disappeared ffrom their site a few days later.

I'm certain it's now on the Top Marques site being sold through an indie trader in the Nottingham area.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know or have an idea why it might have failed beyond a point where Sytner wouldn't bring it up to their required selling standard, considering it's a relatively rare and "upmarket" model? Seems strange to me but then do I know?

in the link i went to there site, and its advertised at 16k, perhaps its been subject to a insurance claim??

Are you interested in buying it? If so PM me, I know the car.

As I understand it main dealers like that have strick rules which ensure they only sell car of a particular standard ie age mileage etc. I would guess it keeps the stock at a certain level quality wise.

I just bought an 07 a6 avant from a indi car dealer who bought it from the main dealer where it was px

I guess main dealers have arrangements in place with local Indi garages and when something that doesn't meet their standards comes in then they sell it to him at trade price and he sells it on to the punter.

Could just be an age thing; main dealers don't generally have cars on show that are nearly a decade old, only much newer stuff……..not that I've noticed anyway.

At a certain age they go out to the trade as a matter of course (according to my local dealer).

At trade in time, my last 2 E Classes have been 6 and 5 years old and I was told in both cases that the car would go straight to the auctions due to their age.

An 8ish year old CLS probably wouldn't make the approved list for that reason - though they may have initially considered it with it being a 55K :dk:.

I have always PX my cars at mercedes northampton. They have always been low mileage and in mint condition but they have never put any of them back on there forcourt. I can only think it is because they have had more than 2 owners as I have always been the third owner

It can't be the age as Sytner Select has quite a few 2005 cars on their site for sale.

Used Car Stock - Sytner Select

Maybe there was just too much wrong with it - something that was the case with the CLS I bought... :fail

Liability vs Reward maybe

Their warranty looks good (£595 for three years)... maybe they decided too risky for them based on condition and mileage.

Also they have to turnover stock quick so perhaps it was just it's "time".... like grandma last summer.

It may be that the car doesn't have full MB Dealer service history. I know this is one of the criteria.

Sometimes also it could be minor bodywork repair. Some marques won't put cars like that on their forecourts.

They might have too much stock at present, and with the new reg coming up shortly
they will need space.

I made an enquiry but was ultimately told that it had failed their inspection and they would not be able to sell it and it would be disposed of elsewhere.

That rules out age / mileage / model / etc. as a reason since all of those would have been known before inspection. Likely to have had a significant repair, I would guess. But Alx obviously knows :)

Yes he does :) Thnx, Alex.
