Cls shooting brake amg
Ok, two weeks of ownership and about 1200 miles and so far so good.

The SB is unlike any car I have ever owned. Previoulsy I have had Rs6 (V10), 997 Turbo, R8, M5, Cayenne Turbo.

Picked car up from Exeter and had a long drive through Wales. Now I have broken the 1000 miles recommended before it can tested it properly.

Firstly the sound - wow! It is how cars are supposed to sound - love it. Interior feels modern, it needs the sunroof though as I think it could be dark without it. Dynamic seats excellent, HK sound as good if not better than Bose and Command system is pretty straightforward to use. My kids are amused by the tiny AMG gearshift. Plenty of room for 3 kids in the rear. LED headlights are extremely bright and a few drivers have flashed assuming I am on full beam. Also happy with the colour - it's a metallic Diamond white.

The car is easy to drive around town - gearbox is far superior to BMW's SMG. From standstill the acceleration is superb - what i love is that even on comfort setting, the systems don't cut in too early so you can get a bit of sideways. Where legal - the acceleration from 70-120 feels instant. So far I have found the handling great - nice light steering and comes out of corners well - but - and I lke this - there is always that slight reminder that with all the power through the rear there is always the possibility this machine could bite you back!

Mpg? Reset when I picked up - about 24 mpg! Certainly respectable for the fun I am having.

Favourite thing about the car is that it is reasonably understated and the reactions so far from people have mostly been complimentary.

Looks epic, really big fan of this car.

Good mpg too!

My C63 is just running in now (2100 miles) and I think that and the combination of the warmer weather has meant that I am seeing 23mpg after a fast drive (was previously 20mpg). My best so far was 25mpg on a 75 mile run taking it easy.

I have yet to see a CLS SB of any engine on the roads in London ...

very rare cars, more so in AMG versions

Looks great

Agree it needs a roof, the pano would be great but not even an option on the CLS..

Nice Car!!

I have to say I do like the idea of one of these in the future, maybe as replacement for my E55 estate. I saw one in the dealer but was a 350 not an AMG and I even liked the look of that. Seems a perfect compromise between coupe and estate.

lovely car, thanks for posting

Lovely

Looks great, congratulations

I had a blast in cls63 around Brooklands and was impressed, it hide its size well. Have you tried one? It would be interested in how they compare.

My favourite current AMG - was in convoy with one last night out near Reigate, beautiful.

Thanks for the post - keep us further informed. This is on my radar but having specced one it's not cheap!
I have asked my dealer to let me know when they have one in but even he hasn't seen one yet.

Tonight, I had the pleasure of...spotting the beast...I even flashed my head lights ...looking good!!

I bought one too

I also recently bought a CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake and have to date done 1200 miles. I bought it new, having gazed admiringly at in the showroom since launch in November - a full fat Edition One spec car in black with black nappa, carbon fibre interior trim (which I don't "get", certainly at the price they charge). It didn't move out of the showroom in the period to March and by that time I was ready to sell my 2010 S350 CDI Limo (a bit of a change, I know) because I don't need the extra space and I wanted to have a little more fun.

One reason that the car didn't sell is that no one seems to know what the Edition One specification is, or what the power/torque numbers are (I have seen all sorts of numbers quoted, particularly for the gross torque as uprated). Anyone able to be definitive? I love the concept of a fast estate car but they certainly don't get it in the States (where it is not listed) and there were M Benz salesmen who suggested that I would be much better off in an E 63, a CL 63 or a SL 63. I don't agree!

Perhaps they will sell more when there are more out there on the road.

Well. it certainly has been fun - even when subject to the rather old fashioned running in restrictions. In fact it's a hoot. The noise on startup (for 30 seconds or so, particularly) is intoxicating. You want to turn it off and on again, and again, and blip the throttle when passing high walls, or in tunnels. It looks and sounds great and is a real headturner. There is nothing like it (apologies to RS6 and E 63 owners).

It is surprisingly practical. It took an antique chair (unexpected purchase) with ease at the Buxton Antiques Fair last Saturday. I agree that the dynamic seats are great - mine are cook/chill and the massage function got a firm positive vote from my wife on the Cat and Fiddle - although the thick mist at the top meant that the 50 mph speed-averaging cameras did not get tested.

To sum up, years ago (when life seemed very different and quantitative easing hadn't been invented) I owned a Ferrari 550 Maranello - and with just under 500 bhp it used to be heavy and scary in anything less than perfect conditions. Ten years later, the CLS 63 is incomparable - so much faster and more easy to drive in any conditions. This is no doubt due to the electronics and the chassis design - a different generation and a different standard altogether.

Early days - but I'm loving it.
