Hello everybody,

I am going for a long trip (2400 miles) in two weeks time. It means that a set of spare bulbs would be recommended in case if any of the current ones have gone on my way.

Could you tell me please, what type of bulbs are fitted in the tail lights and the front ones?

There are OEM bi xenon bulbs mounted at the moment, so I reckon they are Philips D2S 4300k? I consider an upgrade to 5000k or even 6000k as long as it is road legal.

Which bi-xenon bulbs would you recommend?

Kind regards,

MRk

HI

I would think that MB dealer parts dept should be able to advise and sell you a replacement bulb kit, especially as its a legal requirement to have this whilst driving in Europe...don't forget your hivis vest, warning triangle and breathalyser test thingy :)

hi-vi vest - checked
triangle - checked
fire ext - checked
alco breathalyzer - checked
med kit - checked
towing rope - checked
jump leads - checked
tire sealant - checked
GB magnetic sticker - checked
window breaker/hammer - checked
phone and laptop car charger - checked

The only thing left is the bulb kit. I would like to buy a more decent one and replace the current bulbs. They work fine, but glow yellowish.

I am also thinking of a sat nav, TomTom 5100 to be precised. Any suggestions to that?

5000k or 6000k xenons won't be an upgrade , as the light gets bluer , less is emitted so your lights will actually be worse.

Stick with the stock 4200k.

Given the xenons are technically a lifetime fit you shouldn't need them and the rear lights are all halogen bulbs soldered to a board and are again designed to be a lifetime fit and neither of which are a roadside fit all you need are a pair of indicator and sidelight bulbs otherwise you're just wasting a lot of money for the sake of it.

In regard to satnav i have only ever used MB systems with up to date euro mapping, but im sure that halfords can advise you as to best options, depending on where you are driving to. come to think of it i believe that halfords also sell spare bulb kits too.i was in there yesterday to buy a new dipped beam bulb as one of mine had blown

I use MB systems myself while driving around, but for a longer trip across the Europe I would prefer a sat nav with live traffic and cameras detector ;)

Regarding the bulbs, I will get just the sidelights and indicators then. Thanks

Are they not LED, not Halogen?

fascinating thread .. I had no idea about the rear lights.

often wondered how amazing it is that I have never had to replace any rear light bulb ..

Sat-Navs with speed camera alert are illegal in France.

The border with Belgium is not that far away, so I do not bother about France that much (even though I bought the alco breathalyzers). I could use MB system for that bit for a peace of mind and start using TomTom after crossing the border with Belgium.

I only wonder if the TomTom 5100 is worth it's money..
