Hi All,

(Be gentle with me please.....new here)

I have just come over from the 'dark side' - (BMW)

I bought a black 2008 CLS 320 CDI earlier this week.

(Wife thought I'd gone mad but after 50 miles she's convinced!)

I successfully fitted Can Bus error free sidelights today (fingers cut to shreds...)

They look great around about dusk but aren't very bright during the day, certainly not bright enough to be considered DRL's.

So I'm thinking..Has anyone replaced the standard fog light bulbs with LED's?

Also thinking about either vinyl wrapping the grille or getting a more modern looking one. Any ideas?

Any advice much appreciated.

LED foglights would be completely useless in fog due to the colour temp and their light pattens.

LED sidelights at dusk

Just a small shot of the new LED sidelights.

You can probably see even from this bad photo that they are much whiter and brighter than the standard milky white MB ones.

Can confirm no Can Bus errors :)

Yep, understand that of course. I've never found any fog lights on any car to be any good anyway.

Are there fog lights on new MB cars anyway? Looks to me that they have been replaced by DRL's?

Was just trying to get a DRL look...

Hi Linux, I too have moved from the dark side into the light only last week having been a BMW family (and Lexus) for a very long time. And funnily enough I bear the scars from a HiD conversion and LED sidelight replacement on Thursday. The headlight conversion is totally 1000% worth the injuries! The sidelight LED look perfect now also and not like a pair of sleepy gloworms just waking up :)
I am not sure about the 08 models but mine has the option in the menus of running "constant headlights" which sort of take the place of DRLs in some countries. It also makes it easy as under that option as soon as the engine runs the headlights are on and you do not have to bother turning them on manually. As for LED replacements in the foglights I am sure it can be done but effectively it will make them useless in fog (although may not be an issue) but it does mean you will have to manually turn them on each time you use the car and also the sidelights front and back will be on as well.

Hi David,

Eating breakfast here with only four sticky plasters on the hands.... :)

I think I've managed to find the right foglight bulb on ebay. I'm not sure whether to attempt to fit fit them myself as apparently the under tray has to come off to do the job. I'm not worried about losing the fog lights to LEDs - Just want the DRL look.

I do have the option "constant headlights" :)

How are the HIDs at night - Do they give a lot more visibility than the standard issue ones? And no Can Bus errors?

Take any photos?

If you get a second can you give me the link of the place you bought them from please?

I've got a few more cosmetics coming up next week - I'm going to get some window tinting for the back and rear glass and probably get the chrome trim around the doors vinyl wrapped in black to match the car and top it off with vinyl wrap on the horizontal grille slats on the front.

Have a good weekend!

I've replaced my fogs with LEDs last Wednesday. Will upload a pic with the dipped and fogs on later on my thread. I knows they will be pretty useless as fogs, but don't really drive the car in fog ;)

You don't need to take the bottom tray to replace the fogs (at least on mine), just the surrounding grille with 3 screws

Cheers for the heads up - Do you have a link of the place you bought them?

Looking forward to seeing the photos!

I'm off to unscrew the grille now... :)

Pics uploaded to the thread in performance lounge! Would have posted a link, but I'm on my mobile

Photos look great - excellent job....

If you have the link for the fog light bulbs I'll get on and get them ordered.

Big thank you in advance!

A pair of those in the sidelight mount would be tempting!

The sidelight, know they won't fit but that bulb with the right fitting would be interesting.

I do have a pair of H7 load resistors which I bought by mistake, are you sure you have H7 bulbs for fogs?
