Lo all

New member here, having just acquired a 2nd hand full MBSH CLS320, with Angel Tuning remap.

On acquisition it needed new tyres (done) and service (done today), but the indie MB garage cannot reset the ASSYST system.

I've tried, and it won't work either.

I've posted this over on BenzWorld also, just in case, but have a look at :

VID_20130619_192117.mp4 - YouTube

I've tried this in keys pos I & II and same result.

Clues?

Garage suspect either :
a) Something daft with the remap (unlikely)
b) A CAN blocker (possibly installed with the remap, possible but I have to phone them tomorrow to see)
c) A duff wire (garage reported low voltage on one CAN item)
d) A duff control unit somewhere (£!)

Did the indie try resetting it with their star machine to see if it would reset that way.

I believe they tried with their machine and via the dash (the vid is me checking). Utter worse case is (from what I can gather via a Russian site) is someone has maybe wound back the car and something doesn't add up?

Given MB want to charge £120 (+ VAT!) for an hour, and the indie has updated the DSS/ESS, what are the options?

Do you have a digital service book or normal one. If its digital was the mileage of the previous services checked.

I think you can check the mileages of the previous 5 last mot's on vosa's website.

Also the mileage can be checked in a few controls units to see if they tally up.

It's an 09 plate, so it's just had it's first MOT.

The MOT (this March) shows 47,003

Digital books show :

Today : 49526 (I put 700 on it driving it back from Scotland)
13.03.2012 : 34881 (14645 miles previously)
07.04.2011 : 27014 (8767 miles previously)
26.05.2010 : 15025 (11989 miles previously)

Vehicle registered on 30.04.2009, so it's in line with what I'd expect, although I doubt the indie checked the various places the mileage may be stored.

Mileage seems about right then for age/services

It may well be that the asysst system has gone out of sync and may just need reprogramming with the correct mileage and service carried out.

But would be worth checking the mileage in the various control units to see if they tally up.

Were the previous services carried out at the same garage. Was this a mercedes dealer

From what I can gather (in reverse order)

Indie OR Gerard Man/Inchcape (depends on who printed the report!)
Gerard Man/Inchcape
MB Stratford Upon Avon
Indie (today)

I'm in Brum, the car was purchased from Aberdeen, and prior to that, Stratford upon Avon, so differing garages.

Just loathe to pony up £120 + to MB just to sync a 'puter!

You dont need to take it to a mb dealer for it to be done.

Cant your indie do it for you.

If not you should try Acid@msl. Hes a forum supporter like me and is also an indie as well.

He is very good and quite a few guys off here go to him for work.

Thankee, they aren't far from me, I gave them a call and shall trundle that way shortly and report back.

Righty ho, been and back.

Nice chaps at MLS - although it has temporarily foxed them (and STAR) as well. Mileage checks out in the various places it's stored, but the car won't let them reset the service light (which now says over 3K days overdue! - so something was changed!)

It's going back on Saturday for someone to attempt to reprogram the central gateway.

Glad you got on ok they are a good bunch of guys up there.

Deferred for a week methinks. Rang them today before going down, and they couldn't get hold of the required chap. I'm in Sheffield all week, so will have to see if something can be arranged for the w/e....

Not sure if you can tag people in here, so I shall try tagging acid@msl anyway (as I'm such a new user I can't use the PM system!).

Acid, if you're reading this, any odds you could give me a call/message (you should be able to email me via my forum contact page) re: arranging when your chap is/can be available? (have called a couple of times but am still none the wiser as to when/if your man may be available to look at the car). Sorry to be a pain, I'm just rather keen to get this resolved, although I can't drop the car in until the 29th now.

Kudos to Wayne & team at WMD.

Well, it's been a while, but this has been resolved.

Hats off to Wayne & team at WMD Birmingham, who resolved the issue where three others had failed (two well known independents in Birmingham and one nr Birmingham).

Car has no errors, ASSYST now works as planned, full service (inc ATF) - and typically a glow plug light kicks in the next day (although to be fair, it had shown signs of an issue before, just not tripped the light/thrown a code) - and that was replaced by WMD also, as a while-you-wait.

The A class in the family will be going there for it's services now also.

Shame no-one else could resolve it, and/or stopped wanting to know - but it's restored my faith a bit :)
