Hey guys, a good friend of mine is trying to sell his Cls350 petrol but has not had any interest in it at all to my suprise. Its seems to be the only AMG kitted 350 out there. whats your expert opinions on it, too expensive? just hold out for the right buyer?

cheers

Mercedes-Benz CLS CLS350 4dr Tip Auto Coupe 3.5 2005

Yep , agreed

AMG badges on a non AMG car always suggest to me that the car has been driven hard ( to make people think it really is an AMG )

Bin the pretend badges and pop the originals back on and I bet it sells.

As above but also....

I guess a lot of people looking at these will be looking at the 320Cdi, lots of choice,

Looks smart though, where have you tried?

I've idea on price so check Autotrader, piston heads and ebay to see what similar are selling for?

£10995 could be worth a try... just sounds a lot lower...

IMHO large-engined petrol cars are rather unpopular due to running costs. Suspect that might have a bearing on the situation too.

There is also the issue of the balancer shaft sprocket wearing out which is a big labour job but not sure if many people are aware of that. Since its a large petrol engine, the fuel consumption is low compared to the 320CDI. That petrol V6 engine is mainly for those who dont use the car much often or don't expect outstanding fuel consumption IMHO.

It is going to be hard at that price, you could probably pick up a Cls55 for that money.
People would look for a diesel in that price range
Petrol's these days are not the first choice, even mpg on those are quite good

As said the badges will stop even those looking for that specific model showing interest unless you were asking really low money. They imply it's an aftermarket bodge job and the owner is a bit of an idiot so god knows what else he's done to it, as you say it isn't that at all, debadge it and don't even mention it.

I still don't get what badges got to do with the sale ???
Some one buys them or the car??
View and asses if the car was trashed or not
Just stupid

all valid points guys, debadging seems the way to go. Is the AMG kit + wheels really worth the extra money in the real world as it seems standards ones are up for about £10K?

I think its just the perception to people that its been driven hard and that they have been added on after.

People that buy CLS tends to know a little about cars, and you mate stuck a CLS 55 AMG badges on marks him out as a ****!

Also having a AMG body kit don't make it 3k more expensive than a standard car.

^^^^^
That is why private sale auto market is so slow

I think you need to take off the body kit, wheels ( put stealies on), badges off (stick 1.2 diesel) and it will sell for 20k

Looks like that what buyers want lol

Hillarious

Badges etc don't really need to come off IMO.

I think £2k needs to come off the asking price 1st!

Agreed.

If a buyer wants crap mpg there's plenty of 500's for less and even a few 55's around that mark.

I dont do many miles per year in my car so economy is not a worry but bodykit and wheels are only there as the original owner liked them anyone looking for a 350 cls would expect those add ons to be at no extra cost as not to every ones liking But the badges would kill it for me cls55 on the boot lid? Hmm and V8 Kompressor on the wings its just not on its not a MK1 Escort trying to be an RS2000?
Tony.

It's not an AMG so it might put people off that's it's badged as one, secondly people are going to want the 320 CDI a lot more, the 350 petrol isn't a very popular choice.

The CLS 55 though seems very popular, when I was searching for one they were all gone quickly or in hideous colour combos.

...and there's the other problem, if you're going to buy a thirsty car it's not much of a stretch to go full fat. Be glad it's not a 500 though, not even a stretch from them.

Shame because it looks a nice car with decent miles...just twatty badges :)
