CLS63S Forged Engine build

What is the spec?
How does it go?
is it much different to standard (yes I get that the components are stronger) but have any modifications also been done, to enhance the power/torque/ performance delivery?

It has Darton Sleeves fitted to the block with CP Carillo Pistons, Rings and Rods. The engine is built to handle 1500hp. It currently running 730hp (stage 2 map) as it is being used as a daily by my wife. It would require Pure turbos to achieve 1000hp+.

Why did you do the rebuild?

Yeah, what was the reason to upgrade with HD parts?
People often say don't fix it if ain't broken.

Did you have lots of quid burning oil in your pocket?

I had originally planned on doing the build to strap the turbos, clutch packs and a few other bits to achieve 1400hp. I had planned on keeping the car forever so wanted it done right. Fast forward two years and a whole lot of money later and it is just being driven by my wife who is completely against any more power. Strange after all the hard work I know but it has now just stayed as a daily runner / family car @ 700/730hp.

The positives are it wont give me any issues as bend rods are common on these M157 engines!

Usually on cars with a bad remap.

I like what you have done and the engine is now ready should you want to add those pure turbos.
Another member here had his CLS63 rebuilt with pure turbos and various maps to get a healthy and driveable 900+ BHP.

Can I ask who did the work for you?

Engine build was done by Pro Engines in Hatfield and a lot of the jobs by AJS Performance in Hitchin. A lot of parts have been imported form the US and fitted.

Cheeky question, but what was the cost?
I have a CLS55 and was talking to another CLS55 owner today. Because of a little bore and ring damage he had his engine rebuilt to factory spec plus tuned headers for £4500. My motor is on song but one day it might need attention and the car is a keeper.

Sleeving the block was around £4k/5k and pistons and rods for 1500hp spec were around £9k. You can make massive savings getting lower rated (ie 1000hp rated) which would come around half the cost. Then there is all the labour and other bits you may need to replace when its all being examined... I have spent a lot on this build as I have replaced every part to basically have a new engine.

Crikey. That must have cost a fortune.

Well done on the build. It’s heat and as mentioned, poor high power / torque maps that cause issues on the M157. Yours should be bullet proof now which is a bonus.

I ran over 900bhp on my CLS63 and it took some serious mapping to get the power / torque on the tarmac. It took slot of capping of the torque lower down the Rev range, otherwise the rear wheels will just light up, likewise on each gear change. With anymore power and torque it would be a challenge. In my experience I’d say 1000bhp / 1000lb/ft with amazing mapping may just be possible as a fast car, but beyond that the car will be undriveable unless at high speeds.
