Hello

Installing a retrofit cruise control (VDO tempostat) in my C200 CDI W202 (manual transmission) I found a switch with two wires located in the upper part of the clutch pedal.

Anybody can tell me what is this for in a manual transmission car? Can I use this switch to prevent engine overspeeding using the cruise?

Thanks

ive only driven one manual car with cruise control.

When the clutch was depressed , the cruise flipped off. This was a 53 BMW 530d

if that helps ..

Its possible that its a warning switch. When the clutch starts to wear the pedal will creep upwards and when it gets too high up, it will trip this switch too warn you that the clutch needs adjusting.Just a guess tho.You could lift the clutch pedal up till it hits the switch and see what happens on the cluster.

I already did that, and I found that this switch works inverse to brake light switch: closed circuit in rest and open circuit when you depress the clutch pedal. Of course, no warning ligth in the cluster.

The fact is that this switch works exactly as a cruise control clutch pedal should work, but my car never had a cruise and my MB dealer told me that there is not pre-instalation for cruise in my car. That is the reason I am fitting an aftermarket cruise.

Even if I do not know what is this for, my interest is if I could use for my new cruise not interfering in any electric circuit crucial for ABS, ESP, brakes or whatever.

Any comment? Best regards

Nobody else knows about this clutch switch?
