Code Reader.

I'm about to by a code reader and the Autel MD801 looks like it fits the bill for my 2001 - 2008 fleet. LINK.

The only downside I can see with this model is that the unit isn't updateable, but I can live with that.

Has anyone used the Autel MD801 or have any other suggestions for a unit of similar capabilities for around £150?

The older Autel readers, which were upgradeable, did not have any upgrades published for them so it may not matter in practice.

I have one of the more basic Autel code readers and it wont read anything on my ml works fine of the ford, Peugeot and Vauxhall I have just sold

Its fine it was my first weapon for diagnosing customer problems, anymore detail I dropped onto Snap On diagnostics any deeper than that then Star obviously is the ultimate.

However the 801 is now superseded by the 802 which is miles better and around £190

Would a clone of star on your laptop not be a better solution, happy to set it up for you

Correct, there are in fact no updates available for the 'upgradeable' Autel models...

I have the Autel MaxiDiag, a bit pricey but it does cover some MB-specific bits in addition to of the standard OBDII, i.e. SRS/Airbags ans ABS/ESP/BAS.
