Mercedes C350 Sport
I bought a 2010 c350 from Mercedes Huddersfield at the end of January. It has gone back today as there was a nocking noise when going over speed bumps etc. However the car aslo developed a fault last thursday. The orange coil light came on and went off as usual and then after about 3 seconds of the car being on it came back on and stayed on. After abou 20 seconds of driving it went off and flashed every 10 seconds.

So i reported this to the dealer and upon looking at it have just phoned me and said the glow plugs etc are not covered in the warranty. They may not be covered by the warranty but surely as a serviceable part they should have been replaced under the last service which shouldnt of been more than 3 months before i bought the car? So surely the part should be in warranty? The car struggled to start this morning only after about 3-4goes it started. The car has done 68000

Any advice is much appreciated as he has just told me its 100+vat to even look at it to find out what the actual problem is

Thanks

It will not be covered by warranty. Its a serviceable item not replaced under service conditions.

Take it to an independent like me and it will be much cheaper. You may also find that the glow plug relay is faulty if it becoming hard to start.

Oh right ok thanks. I would do usually but i live in liverpool and the car is now in huddersfield. Ive got a loan car off them so i dont mind paying slightly more to just get it all sorted now but i dont want to pay a stupid amount. Do you or anybody know how much with merc it will be?

Thanks for ur reply btw

I don't know their hourly rate. The glow plugs are about £15 each X6. And about 1 hour labour.

Thanks. Well i assume the 100+vat too inspect will be an hour or so. Probably lookin at the best part of 250 i suppose at a normal garage the hourly rate will be about 50

Joey hi
If u know which cylinder's plug has the fault, then u can very easily do it yourself. The glow plug is very cheap. At about 10-20pounds.
You can check on youtube to guide you.
If u change the plug and still have issues with the orange coil on the dash, then it will probably be the glow plug relay. Thats easy too,but costs about a 100.

Thanks for the advice everyone. Quick update. Its the glow plug receiver and the dealer thinks it should be covered. Waiting to hear back off the warranty people
