My disc changer has been playing up for quite a while now so daughter has been swapping my teleatlas disc for her music discs when she is in the car

I noticed this morning that it took several insertions of the disc for the unit to read it.

i took it out and gave it a good clean and noticed that it is quite badly scratched. I assume this is why it is struggling to read it

apart from forking out for another disc, what options are available to me....could i copy the data using a computer onto a new disc?

The CD scratch removal kits you can buy (those with the viscous liquid) work quite well. They fill the scratches with a liquid that sets and the laser doesn't get sprayed all over the place by said scratches.

WatchDog showed Blockbuster shops cleaning discs that had stopped working in Sony PlayStations - the shops had a special machine for cleaning the discs, so may be worth popping in there if you still have one nearby.

Cleaning the disc has had no effect

Looks like its risk splitting the unit or shell out for another disc
As I own an original copy, could i not download it from somewhere and burn it to a disc?

Dont think the mods like talk of downloading pirate versions etc on here. If you know where to get it then try it if you wish.

If you know someone else with Comand 2.0 try their disc in your car to verify the problem is the disc.

If you have an old version of the disc look on ebay they dont go for much. Or take it as an opportunity to upgrade to a newer version. Or ask in the wanted section, someone may have an old disc.

The cd reading laser is a known weak-spot. Every time you eject and replace a disc it's a chance for more dust to get in.

Cleaning the disc is a good start but in the end you'll need to have the laser/eye cleaned I'm afraid! :(

Mine popped up a CD error a few days ago so it's only a matter of time...
