Comand firmware

Sorry if this has been covered before but it is complicated and I think I have used up my carbon allowance just searching google.

I recently fitted a 2004 Comand unit to my 05 CLK. After a fashion it all went well.

It does not play MP3's from a CD so I assumed that I need to upgrade the firmware but I cannot get into the Engineering menu to see what it is, so maybe the firmware has already been upgraded. I have tried every combination of buttons until my fingers hurt.

As this is a retrofit - and I haven't taken it to MB to get it coded as there is no real need - is there any way of telling what version it is running or what should I do next.

Thanks in advance

NTG2 comand (A/B/C(W203)/ML/GL/R/CLK(W209)) dont support MP3 or DVD playback in head unit drive. Some of the units support video input from a MB TV tuner or reversing camera though.

There was an AGW flash update in early 2006 which puts TMC traffic jam info on the correct side of the road - dealer has to do that. There is also new navigation processor firmware in the v10 map disk (done when you first put the disk in). AGW & Navigation Processor are parts of the COMAND unit you installed. (on the NTG1 system in E/CLS/S/CL/SLK/SL they are seperate)

Thanks for the info.

Its great that they have a useless bluetooth system (what does it do and does anybody use it) but not MP3 capable.

Is the mystical Engineering Menu not available on the NGT2 systems?

The useless bluetooth system is actually in the phone controller not in the COMAND itself (and deleted from the newer phone controllers) - its something to do with using a BT earpiece for privacy
