After being a very happy E Class owner for the last 3 years I'm very excited to be picking up a new CLS this Saturday. Part of the reason for the upgrade was to say farewell to Audio 20 and hello to Comand 2.5 (with the SD slot etc) but I was surprised to find that when testing the car last week my iphone couldn't connect with the MB bluetooth - neither could the iphone belonging to the MB salesperson. MB called me today to say they have investigated this further and believe it's a fault of the new IOS 4 - not the Comand unit as another member of staff who hasn't upgraded the iphone software can connect to it. Does anyone have any experience with this / is there a solution other than a cradle etc as I thought that was the point of having Bluetooth. Otherwise I guess I'm waiting for an Apple software update....Many thanks for any help!

How did you try to pair the phone? I thought it should be fine except that one may have issues with the phone book.

I guess you did activate BT from the head unit?

There are 2 ways of pairing on NTG2.5 - try the other way - some phones only will work one of the 2 ways.

Hi, we (myself and the salesperson) managed to get the iphone to see MB Bluetooth and entered the 0000 code on both Comand and phone, but after that the phone just seemed to keep searching and no connection could be made. The same thing happened on his phone. Excuse my ignorance but what's the 'other way' to connect? Many thanks

My iPhone 4 connects fine and imports contacts without a problem on my COMAND in my W212.

There is the normal way, and then there is an 'authorise external device' method. I don't have a manual to hand at the moment to check how you do each way

(PPS, NTG4-212 in the W212 is a very different system to the NTG2.5 in the CLS)

Have read many people are reporting issues with bluetooth using Iphone 4 and Iphone 3G/S with IOS 4.

thanks Richard - fingers crossed that I can find a way to make this will work - I guess that's what I'll be doing when I pick it up on Saturday. Very dissapointing to think that I'm getting a bluetooth comand that won't work with my phone (without spending further £s). I remember when we tested it at the MB garage we were prompted to enter a code (we did 0000) but the iphone didn't want to register - the same happened with the sales person's iphone. cheers

I have a NTG2.5 Command system in a CLS MY2008. It works fine with my iPhone - no issues at all. I think MB are fobbing you off. Ask if they've done the latest telematics update (came with the last map update). My iPhone is a 3GS model with IOS4.01 - although it worked with IOS3 and 4.0.

Are you sure the latest maps bring a telematics update? I'm afraid it isn't actually a telematics update but an update to the navigation firmware, what ever it the correct name for it.

If you have older firmware you need a telematics update first before you can install the latest maps (you need to have at least the Jan 2009 update). However the latest update i.e. Jan 2010 has some bugs so best to update to the previous verison (06/2009) or wait as I think a new update is due soon.

No it doesn't bring a specific update. It requires a firmware update to be installed by the dealer. Reference is made to this via the Comand Online Ltd website - see here:

Comand Online Ltd :: Mercedes SatNav/COMAND :: Mercedes Navigation Disks :: Comand APS Map 2009/2010 for Hard Disk COMAND NTG2.5 in A B CLC W211-E CLS SL SLK ML GL R Sprinter Vito Viano

At the bottom it says Please also note that if your system is running old firmware (before 01/2009) it may need an update by the Mercedes dealer, which is often done as part of the normal servicing and should be done free of charge. The firmware updates released by Mercedes address many issues with the COMAND system behaving oddly and potentially also adds some extra functionality such as volume increase for the AUX input, and ECO mode navigation routing (alongside the normal fast, short & dynamic options).

Installed my new iPhone 4 today in my E Coupe without any problems. Also have the address book working:thumb:

Well I picked up my CLS from MB yesterday and I'm happy to report back that after a firmware update (which they did during the week) my iphone (running v4 software) was able to pair with the comand unit (NTG 2.5) without any problems and uploaded all contacts. So thank-you for advising me to go back to them with reference to the firmware update as they were insisting it had nothing to do with MB and the problem was with the v4 iphone software update. I've no doubt this may be the case with certain comand units but if you are experiencing this (as I did when I test drove the CLS a week ago) then at least get them to check that your comand is running on the latest software/telematics as this may solve the problem.:)

Hi,

Thank-you for this thread. Do the updates cost money?
I have just bought (today) my first Mercedes Benz.
Cls 320 cdi.

Thanks

Steven
