Just back from a week in Cornwall with the E55. The car is running beautifully and my only gripe is just how infuriating it is to have to know chapter and verse of where i am going in order to program the Satnav.

I should have taken the Tom Tom.

I really miss the postcode functionality and the ETA and distance data. (The latter hopefully will be sorted when I get the head unit flashed at the dealer as although I am running V9 I still seem to need the latter doing).

I also miss the fact that the Tom Tom seemed to manage to display a virtual image of a roundabout whereas Comand has not a clue.

I also miss the fact that the Tom Tom kept directions to a sesible minimum and did not want to tell me up to 5 times prior to taking a turning.

Comand looks great but the SatNav is cr**.

Actually tried to use the nav in lisas w203 last week and gave up, its much hassle compared to tt, used the map from the web instead:) perfect result cost zero:D

I met up with a colleague recently and we were driving on somewhere else. I tried to find the address in COMAND and after about 5 minutes he got out and went to his bag in the boot, got his TomTom, turned it on and found the address straight off. Embarrassing.

My experience is completely the opposite, although from the showroom demonstration on a CLS I wasn't expecting much.

I can't believe how reliable the Audio 50 on my A-Class is compared to my portable Garmin.

I can enter full postcode information, if I want to.

The unit shows full roundabout details.

The Linguatronic couldn't be any simpler to use - and directions given couldn't be more precise - and provides hassle-free estimated time of arrival.

Strongly recommended. I just couldn't return to using a portable GPS.

Anyone would think they had done away with road signs in the UK, listening to you lot.

Road signs are free guys - where is the problem you are trying to find the solution for ?

Anyone who has relied on their wife as navigator on a long journey will know how a good GPS will minimise a potential trip to the divorce court.

When you visit Cornwall many places of interest are indeed signposted, but generally 1/2 mile from where they are. Thats of no value when you travel in from 30 miles away and need some direction.

And many villages are not signposted at all.

That said, you completely miss the point. MB provide a sat Nav system at a premium which is not as capable as a small box purchased from Halfords.

The satnav was so hopeless I had both - a wife you had not a clue and my MB satnav that had not a clue - a lethal combination.;)

Went to south france recently and the road signs said this way 3 miles and the tom tom said was 10 miles tt was right:D, so french road signs nil.

just don't forget to not say, "Honey, please read the map for me" :D

I agree that 'Nazi Bitch' can be a little (OK, a lot) irritating with her constant "Prepare to turn left", "Turn left in two hundred yards", "Take the second left", "Take the next left", "Continue to follow the road".

Continue to follow the road, as opposed to????

I agree also that Comand is too fussy when entering an address. I wanted to visit someone in Portsmouth so I entered the town and started to type in the road, but ran out of letters. It turned out that Comand 'knew' the road was technically in Southsea and wasn't budging

It can also get lost rather too easily if your starting point isn't on a road it knows about such as a large car park or an industrial estate, or if you deviate from the calculated route. When you get on to the road 'proper', the position indicator is usually off the road by some margin and it can take ten minutes or more to find its location. Meanwhile Nazi Bitch is barking orders to get you from where she thinks you are to back on track. I kid you not, driving through South London one day I deviated from the route, and within ten minutes the position indicator had me in the North Sea off the Yorkshire coast

Still, it looks good.

She's called Chloe, so she can't be that bad, and I quite like her voice. ;)

For the 2 grand it costs to get her in your car, you can call her whatever the damn hell you please!!

Just be careful of Vice Squad officers taking an interest....
