I have just purchased a pristine low mileage 2004 E320 CDi, (registered September 2004) which has the following disc in the navigation unit in the boot: -

Eurpoa 2004.
Version 3.
A211 827 52 59
B6 782 3341.

I am about to purchase the following upgrade for my navigation system: -NTG1 COMAND APS, Mercedes P/N A211 827 33 65, which I believe is suitable for my car. However, being a newbie to Mercedes and this forum it is here that I get very confused. A number of posts refer to a need to upgrade the software in the "head unit" whilst others refer to an upgrade required to the unit in the boot in order to move from an old version to a much later one, in this case 2004 to 2010/2011.

My apologies if I am covering old ground but I would be very grateful if the experts on here could tell me what I need to do to ensure the system works as intended, preferably in simple words for my benefit and without the need to spend a kings ransom on doing it. Is this something a Mercedes specialist would be able to help with?

Many thanks in anticipation.

No software upgrade needed if you upgrade to V9 or later.

Since V8 any updates that are needed are included on the navigation disk.

The unscrupulous sites that offer pirated/copied disks will tell you that you do need the update disk. They are wrong. They say this because their copied disks dont contain the update. Have aread here; Fake & copied disks - Why you shouldnt use them

A big thank you to Rascalmaster, Verytalldave, Npuk and Alfie, for not only their help in answering my query, but also bringing the good news that version 9 or later does not require a separate upgrade.

Regards,
Stuart
