Even the very latest Comand system and the latest DVD upgrade (V.12 for CL) will not navigate by the full post code - takes only 4/5 digits then gives you streets.

Was discussing this with another Merc owner who says his dealer acknowledged this as a 'bug' and said that it would be 'fixed' soon with an upgrade.

Does anyone know anything about this, as not being able to use the full post code is really naff!?

Upgrade to a £10 eBay TomTom or go for NavFree app (it's free) on I-phone. Mac free takes full post code and has camera warnings. Plug phone into command and bingo bongo.

Yes - on numerous occasions! (not 100% helpful post but thanks anyway).

Really cumbersome too - all I needed in my previous car (Jag) was the post code - took me to the door every time.

Doesnt even list pubs in POI's.

System for UK is really rubbish sadly.

It's a German system and they only use 5 digits in their postcodes..

That said I have never had any issues in getting where I need to using the COMAND 5digit input. Might take a couple of extra keystrokes (street, house number) but it works!

Does anyone know if/when the system will use full postcodes please?

Maximum respect to devotees of Comand but I think it could be improved for those of us who drive in the UK.

Sorry you thought my post unhelpful, I asked thinking there may be a fault, I have used mine both in the UK and various places in Europe without problem.

Only upgrade would be for the hard disc based COMAND. The DVD based system will not get 7 digits input.

My facelift 'C' Class with HDD Comand ntg4.5 accepts 7 digit postcodes as, I beleive, do all other HDD Comands (ntg2.5 and ntg4.0)

It's a bit like being given a phone number minus the area code. On Friday I needed the Marriott hotel in Leeds City Center leaving from Kent.

Command knew the postcode and could get me to Leeds City Center. NavFree took the postcode and got me first time to the front door.

Was the hotel not in the POIs?

Maybe? My point. Ring that no full postcode entry is just so out dated now. Free systems give it. I actually like command but it is shown up by its lack of available functionality. No camera uploads and no full postcode entry.

Should be all about simplicity.

Not sure our German owners would agree? They only know 5digit codes...

But if the hotel is in the COMAND directory, sorted!

Also let's not forget this DVD based system is "out-dated" and the current HDD system is 7 digit..

It took me ages to fully understand the system, POIs is top notch, I have been to various meetings not having a clue about the area, enter postcode, POIs...Hotels, restaurants, Bingo. I admit the upto date sytems is probably better, however, it has never let me down (yet)

Doesn't surprise me, always thought it a very teutonic form of entertainment.

I have yet to try the linguatronic, tried once...'pardon'../CD.....pardon....shut the F up. my first and last try.

Outdated - it's only 3 years old - what nonsence. Surely the DVD system can be upgraded?

Suitably confused now....

My Sat Nav is hard disk - which is updated using a DVD which you then remove..

It's a CL 500 manufactured in Oct 2008 - Vin begins 216..

Which system have I got and can I upgrade it to use 7 digit postcodes?

Yours isn't hard disk, its dvd based...

As mentioned, the "very latest" system in mine accepts full postcodes, which is an advance over the BMW idrive which only accepted first 4/5 digits.
