COMAND Software Version

How can I find out what version of software the COMAND in my W220 is running and what is the latest version?

I'm still having problems with missing MP3 tracks on DVDs and hoped that a software update would cure it (as it did on a colleague's W211). The car's recently been in for a service and I asked for the software to be updated but there's no change. I'd like to double check the software version before I start with anything else!

Doesn't anybody know?

I'm slightly confused by the question. DVD navigational disc's have to be purchased and have the version on the label.

To play Mp3's then the dealer has to actually update the COMAND software, but this only has to be done on the earlier 211 DVD COMAND. (Is this the same system as the 220?) There are far more qualified folks that could give you the technical version, but if you take your car to your own dealership then it is a ten minute job which they do whilst you have a nice cup of coffee, otherwise they might charge a nominal fee.

The 211 COMAND system has had numerous 'upgrades' which are usually done when the vehicle goes in for service, but I have no idea what combination of buttons to press to access this is!

Good luck with the query,
John

It's not the disc version I'm after (I know that) it's the version of software that the COMAND itself is running I need. I know I can take it to the dealer but the point is it's just been in for a service and I asked them to make sure the COMAND was updated. I'm not so sure it has because I'm still having the problem where MP3s are missing on a DVD I've compiled. If I can check the version myself and it is the latest I know that it's an ongoing problem for the W220 COMAND (which is different from the W211 COMAND) and I can save myself the time and hassle of a dealer visit. If its not the latest version then I can follow it up appropriately.

not sure if this could be of any help to you, but these are my findings concerning mp3 on my S211 command (plays mp3 since a software update last year):

- it reads DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW (i use and +RW which i rewrite from time to time)
- it only plays mp3 files, all other files will not show up (mp2, wma, ...)
- it only loads 1 level of folders (the folders directly in the root of the DVD, i have been using about 40 folders)
- it will only load the first 255 files in each folder
- not sure about this, but i think it has also a problem with some rare letters or longer file names...
- i also try to keep the number of files/folder down to about 30 or 40 so the loading time per folder remains acceptable

Not really, but thanks anyway. :)

The problems you describe are what I'm experiencing and were discussed in great length about 12 months ago. However, since then the 211 COMAND has had an update that solves them. I'd like the same for my W220.
