COMAND failure.

For those who may have read, My COMAND system locked out 800yrds from my home having just completed a 300mile journey.

The CD changer still had its disc lights on, and it stopped playing halfway through track 3 of CD 3. (Who painted the Moon black, Hayley Westenra). The Nav system was on dynamic route guidance to my home, had not rerouted at any point on the trip. A DVD was in the drive (Best of British, John Lydon) and the phone was installed.

When it went blank, the music ceased, the map screen went off which had been selected, the dash display had Navi-----please wait, and scrolled to the others it said, Audio---- please wait, Phone---please wait,

Everything else seemed ok and no fault messages came up

So I tried to on/off, but that didn’t work.

Thought it may have overheated. Left it overnight in the garage, selected position 2 on the igniton and still nothing.

Went for a better look at it today. Got car out of garage, tried to eject DVD.nothing. CD changer lit up, but would not give disk.

Rummaged around for fuses, No sign on fuse box under bonnet!, passenger side glovebox wall comes away with a bit of poking with screwdriver, list of fuses in there with some fuses.

Number 41, 5amp, does the navigation system, all other fuses are under the bonnet? On somewhere in the boot..

Turned ignition off, sliped out number41 fuse. Ignition on, no lights on CD changer. Ignition off, fuse back in, ignition back on, all works like normal now?

You tell me how?

Its called an electronic spike, Happens to alot of electronic items discharge the system and hypresto {electronics and computors are as thick as pigsh*t}

You didn't compliment it on it's map reading. Little things, little things...:)

That may be it.

normally i ignore the bints directions as I have an inbuilt direction finder*, but on that trip i followed her to the 't' as it were.:)

* being a man, its keep going until civilisation starts!

Treat 'em mean, Keep 'em keen, that's my motto!

Its because we both live in "The Five Lane Ends Triangle" you and I ;) . You are in the southern Triad and I am in the northern Triad. I blame it on the ariel array at the top of Wrose Hill.

From the TSBs on other forums its a 'fuse 30' reset from memory. Mine used to do it regular but its been looked at a few times, re-flashed, and now it seems to be settled down but I think I'm tempting fate with that statement.

Harrogate know the fix ;) :)

Portzy.

Presumably comand continues to draw power with ignition off (like all headunits). You probably just cut off the background power connection.

In the end, turning stuff off and back on again works ;)

Pull out the fuses. Wait a few minutes. Then put them back. BTW I have had a similar experience a couple of times with the Bose Sound system. After using the Star Diagnosis system and disconnecting it, the audio was completely silent. Comand was on, CD playing etc. Remedy: Turn off the comand unit. Turn off ignition. Get out of the car and wait a minute. Then open the door, start the engine and turn on the comand. It is almost like Micro$oft... ;-)
