Hi guys,

I have a comand unit in my 05 plate C Class. The unit was manufactured the tail end of 04. It will not play MP3 files through the dvd slot. I have read that you can enable this by having the head unit flashed, is this correct?

I contacted my local MB stealer and they said they could enable it to play MP3 but I would lose the function of tha sat nav?!? Seemed very strange.

So is it possible to make this unit play MP3 files? At present it does not even see the disc when I put it in the drive.

Cleared up by Alfie! The No W203 Comand units play MP3 through the head unit, only if you have the correct CD changer.

What you need is an ipod interface kit...;)

Yep thats what I am thinking, how well does it work with the car. Can you browse to any album you like with the steering wheel or head unit?

With the MB ipod interface you can scroll through albums and see them in the cluster (not the COMAND).
In fact you can do most things you can with the click wheel that's to do with selecting musc. You can't create playlists.
Personally I find the control rather confusing...

Hi

First time post from a noob ! Looks like a really useful forum. I reckon I might be on here quite a bit !

Can you tell me what the correct CD changer is?

I've just bought and take delivery in a week of a W203 C Class 180k Sport Edition (reg Jan 2007) - it has all the toys, inc Comand, CD Changer and an IPOD aux input in the glove box. I think rather than having my Ipod sitting in the glove box or run the risk of having to navigate around the Ipod while driving (!), I would prefer to use MP3's if poss.

Does anybody know whether my set-up will support MP3's? Also if it does - does it support ID3 tags so you get the info on the display rather than just track no?

Many thanks,

Mike

Command compatibility with MP3

Its not just the CD changer. Its also the COMAND itself.
If you have an old one there is no upgrade (Unlike the E-class model)

My 55 plate was too early, so I'm sure the same will be true for the 05 one,

However the 2007 model should be fine - Just burn a few MPs'3 on a CD, stick it in the changer and it should be good

I'm confused about all this Ipod interface stuff, can you tell me if mine is compatible? I have a 6 changer CD in the glove box (of my MERCEDES C270 CDI on a 54 plate) and I have a COMAND satnav, is there any way of me playing MP3's without having to just record them onto CD?

Yes if your car is a facelifted one. PM me the chassis number and all will be revealed.

Yes your facelifted car can have the factory iPod kit fitted.

The later CD changers support MP3 playback, the earlier ones do not.

Best solution (in my opinion and I have both Cd changer and iPod) is the ipod.

Do the MP3 compatible autochangers look the same as the MP3 compatible ones?

I have to agree with Alfie the ipod integration kit is cool, just plug in and play i don't even bother with the button controls as i have almost 60gigs of music on tap which equates to thousands of tracks. Far easier than having to change your CD collection every so often.

I was just a little disappointed with the amount of info displayed in the cluster. Very few track titles are displayed in full, can be confusing.

But I have finally cracked the control via the steering wheel buttons :bannana:

So can I clarify, are you saying that I could have the CD auto changer AND the ipod both installed in the car at the same time....I am assuming that the ipod kit goes into the changer?

You can have ipod and CD changer if you have Comand which you do.

The CD changer operates independantly of the ipod interface.

With Audio 20, I'm not sure if its possible to have both as the CDC button is used to activate the AUX/Ipod interface. Happily this doesnt apply to you as you have Comand.

How much is it to fit the Ipod interface if you don't mind me asking? :)

you have a PM.
