Car
C Class Coupe 2004 facelift
Hi

I have a facelifted W203 C lass coupe and iam thinking of buying a comand unit, i notice that there are several on eBay however they all seem to have different part numbers normally the last 2 digits or so can anyone explain the signifigance of this? my car is a 2004 do these digits refer to the year of manufacture?
secondly as my car is a facelift model the wiring configuration in the console i assume will be MOST can someone confirm?

and last but not least my antenna for my UHI telephone system, will this antenna act as a dual antenna for the GPS? or are the cars fitted with comand from the factory have a different antenna system?

regards

martin

Hi
a) MB part number is not consistant necessarilly with model year, they change part numbers when software or hardware is updated
b) Assuming car is mid 04 facelift, yes its MOST. Look at the stereo, if its the full width of the centre console its facelift, if there is metal/wood surround it isnt
c) you will have to add a seperate GPS antenna
d) It will all need coding. along with the instrument cluster to show the directios

Many thanks for the info...
So from your expertise i have established my car is wired using the MOST wiring protocol, and that all the units offered with for the facelift W203 will fit and be able to be configured?
I believe the head units normally begin A203 870 10 89 and our made by Harman/Becker model 6096 is this a true statement?

one last question above the screen of these units is a slot for a disc, can you confirm is this a dual function drive for playing CD and DVD or do you need a separate DVD fitted elsewhere in the car like some other units advertised.

many thanks

Martin

No, its not quite true. They are made by Harman Becker, the part numbers vary and theres at least 2 model numbers i've seen. I'm about to publish a list on www.mercupgrades.com - but its not complete yet, it is complete for A/B class and for W203/W209 European COMAND-APS though - so here is a preview

Nope, A/B/C/CLK/ML/GL/R can not play DVD video or MP3 in the head unit.

Also, the latest COMAND units do not always have a video input

If you want a unit, with Video, and a warranty - I suggest you PM alfie

Its a DVD drive. I know it won't play DVD movies, never tried DVD-A and the unit does not play MP3, so you can't fill a DVD full of MP3

Cheers

A203 870 10 89 is a very old part number for Comand for a facelifted W203.

It has been superceded at least four times if not five!
