I have it on credible authority that the

BOSCH Comand updater for 2.0, 2.0E, 2.5 is actually up to Nov 2003.

I am working on getting a duplicate of this BOSCH CD ..... does anyone have an FTP site for me to upload the IMG file ?

The part number starts with A230 just in case anyone wants to compare.

this sounds good

If you can get the part number MB my dealer can order me one - they are only a fiver or so.
I just checked but they have no notification of any new update disk as of today.

I could then maybe test if back up copies work to save damaging the original - I'd probably have to run a few that maybe others could test also ;)

I'd be curious to find out more on this. I've just got the new 2004/05 Nav CD from Teleatlas (has the M6 toll road on it apart from anything else!)

Car is with the dealer now so I'll ask...

My dealers copy was scratched .... so I am waiting for them to get a new one. When I phone another location to borrow it the CEO almost fired the guy that was about to take it home.

Why not just ask for the part number thats printed on the Cd itself then no one gets fired

I asked BOSCH Australia to point me in the right direction, as it is a BOSCH CD .... the reply was an astounding no ....

" I have better things to do than worry about software updates for Mercedes navigation "

The time he spent fobbing me off was about twice as long as it would have taken to look it up.

In Australia the CD's are tightly controlled. I have no idea why. Around the rest of the world they seem to pour out like beer from tapped kegs.

The 230 part, is W230 589 00 22 00 - This is the MY01 version, which is not what miro suggests it may be - I beleive that is the latest one dealers know about. The MY00 one was W215 589 00 22 00, and the previous S class only version was W220 589 00 22 00

There is also a test cd, for testing COMAND's CD and navigation - W220 589 01 22 00

They all start with W because its a "tool" rather than a part.

And, theres a test DVD for testing DVD Comand (which is useful for testing any DVD system, i.e its not COMAND specific), which is W240 589 00 22 00 - I think this replaces W211 589 00 22 00

I think they release the latest CD using the latest vehicle that has the appropriate comand system in it (ie, W220, W215, W230, no W203) and W211 was replaced by W240 part etc etc

Cheers

What you say makes sense ..... and you say there is nothing for the CD version in the last 6 months ?

I think its longer than 6 months, at least a year I think.

My view is as follows, I may be wrong: -

Bosch will be generating new/fixed versions of the COMAND software, and potentially installing them in new COMAND units. I'm pretty sure the COMAND software in my SL COMAND is newer than on the MY01 CD.

MB is not fitting COMAND to many more vehicles (only the SL and CLK I think have the old system, and I guess that will change very shortly to the new system. made by Becker).

The MY01 software is pretty reliable. If MB distribute a newer version of software to their dealers, they will have to pay each dealer the warranty payment when they upgrade comand systems for the customers. This leaves zero incentive for MB to actually distribute a software upgrade ...

I'd take a guess that they do have upgraded software disks, somewhere in the depths of their german engineering department, and they will never make the light of day.

Bosch have refused to support COMAND and TV tuner etc through any route except via Mercedes - it seems to me that MB would have put that in the contract with them - I would have if I was MB :-)

I started out just looking for updated maps for my just purchased 2000 (W) S320 CDi. The disc in there (a CD I think?) is for 99 and hasn't got half of the streets I have looked for (where I work, my girlfriends house...). So I would like to buy up to date maps.

Then I find out that I need to be a technocal whiz kid to figure ourt what discs to buy - CD's or DVD's - COMAND or COMAND-APS, so it goes.

Then I read about a firmware upgrade - and I find this download - http://www.geocities.com/comand12000/ - but as its a WS230 (W230 589 00 22 00) not WS220 (and my car is a W220 I've been told by a kind bloke here), maybe its not the right update?

I don't want to screw my system up. Can anyone give me some advice - please? Please keep it fairly simple, I'm new to all this. My last car was a BMW...

Thanks

Robert

Just buy the MY01 update from the dealer. It costs a few dollars and if it makes a mess you can blame Mercedes.

I tried the MB dealer in Shrewsbury. They told me they can't sell it to me 'cos its a tool. ****!

Robert

Some dealers wont sell it. Try Tony Purslow in Guildford. They will. You will have to pay postage on it though.

Hi I wonder if anyone can just clear up a point on the MY01 upgrade? I have the MB star on start-up, which would seem to say it has Ver: MY01 already installed. But I thought that I read somewhere that this upgrade provides the ability to enter post-code destinations? Could anyone confirm this?

Thanks,
Chris Turner

I do not think that you can get post codes until 05, I have the command 2 and it is not possible on that with the latest disc

You do get postcodes, enter them in same place as you enter addresses (unlike on new comand aps where you press the P.Code soft button)

You need both MY01 and a new(ish) navigation disk.

I think the star got added at MJ00 upgrade - so you may not have MY01

As Richard quite rightly states, postcode support is available with Comand 2.

Post code support

Cheers guys - been straight out there and tried it and you are right! Now why didnt I find that out -
Thanks
