Coming back to the fold

Thanks 👍 how did you find the MSL map?
MSL are very thorough when they remap a car.
A run on the dyno to check all is well, then a map written expressly for your car is put on and another dyno run to check all is good
.
John @ Big Fish wrote the map for my car and it was very good. No silly boost levels and a sympathetic map not to stress the engine.
My map read 666bhp and 1051Nm and I could have had it tweaked for more if I wanted. I was happy with those figures and the map never caused a single issue in 3 years. Even got 29+mpg on a long run.

The difference it made in acceleration was astounding. Already a quick car, I'm sure it could do the 0-60 in under 4 seconds with ease.
If you do go down the route of remapping your E63, get an LSD fitted first. All that power and you can't put it all down even on a dry surface. I'm sure an LSD would make a big difference.

Thanks for the info, I've been looking at the MyGenius device for ease of use yet I've not tired that route before. I'm confused though John @ Big Fish wrote the map, I assumed MSL wrote and mapped the car or are they out sourcing the mapping files and just flash the Ecu in house?

John worked with Acid at MSL writing the maps for the M156/157/177 so its basically his map being applied at MSL.
MSL used to use Eurocharged maps but I'm guessing either there were problems with some maps or just that John did a better job.
I have no hesitation in recommending the map which can be applied and held using the MyGenius device.

I've got the car booked in next weekend for a dyno run at Surrey RR just to make sure it's running right as you never know what may have been done to it by a previous owner. Pretty sure its all OK but for peace of mind. Have a couple of small fixes/additions to get it up together and then I'll probably pull the trigger on the MSL tune, was looking at DMS as I've used them a couple of times for other marques yet they don't seem to get a strong rep on here which is odd and MSL seem to be the preferred choice.

There isn't much love for DMS here from what I've read. Too expensive and won't touch the 55k engine anymore. They have a branch in Southampton 30 miles from me but I chose to drive 160 miles to MSL such is the respect I have for them as Mercedes tuners.
Wise move to put it on the dyno and check its making the hp. Don't be surprised if its around 570bhp after adjustments (at the crank) This engine appears to make far more than the claimed 550bhp. Mine was 572 before remapping.
You won't go wrong at MSL and I've read GAD come well recommended too.

Compiled a list of MSL videos here, it's a very long list, they've tuned lots and know what their doing. More videos on their daily posts on Facebook too 👍🙂

You weren't joking, I'll take a look at them all! When I've finished work

Yeah it's odd as I've used them and was impressed, and it seems to be on this forum they aren't favoured.
Ideally I just want to make sure all readings are where they should be as if not as its under warranty I can get it fixed before doing any long term damage, and although it has been sold as standard you just never know and that's speaking from experience, bought a A45 facelift from Mercedes-Benz, on the test drive I was impressed on how well it pulled but was sold it as standard. Popped on at Surrey RR and it was running a stage 1 map. Needles to say it went back to Merc as it voided the warranty.

I'll probably go down the MyGenius device route for ease but I like the fact that if its done in house they map can be checked live to make sure it's running right and any tweaks can be done if required, with the handset I just don't think this is possible

Good plan. It's nice that you can load the stock map back whenever you feel like it although I suspect any Mercedes warranty would be voided by having a remap. At close to £3k a year, I wouldn't consider a Mercedes warranty anyway.
Did your E63 come with a years free warranty from a main dealer?
When you get the chance, get the cam sensor to ECU wiring checked to make sure there is no oil ingress. It's an expensive fix if it gets into the ECU.
