Hi all,

We have a problem with my wifes CLK 500 Sport('07 5.5)

The Command is stuck on mute with the little mute icon on on the bottom of the screen. It has done it before but has come back on of it's own accord.
We have had distortion from the centre speaker so I have disconnected that.

I have tried the volume buttons on the wheel and the rotary on the unit, and the mute button on the unit

I have tried disconnecting the battery, then the unit itself to no avail.

I have had the amp apart and it did seem to have a little corrosion on parts of the board which brushed off easily.

All the units seem to be transmitting ok.

Is there a mute wire I can cut?

Will a specialist be able to diagnose the problem

Many Thanks

Adam.

I presume you have tried increasing the volume whilst it is giving an instruction?
To do this set a route, and then press the 'ear' icon to make it repeat an instruction and then straight away increase the volume - it may just be stuck at 'zero volume'!
Good luck!

Thanks, I've tried that, no avail :(

Does the car have an after market hands free kit?

Nope, just the standard connection in the armrest but no cradle attached.

If anyone knows which wire does the mute on rhe back of the set, then I could try cutting it just incase it is shorted to earth somewhere?

You could reset the factory hands free control unit & VCM too (from the fuse or the power plug) or even bypass the unit (need a MOST fibre connector).

The mute wire behind the COMAND unit should be on connector #2, pin #10, a yellow/black wire.

Cheers Diesel, I'll give it a try to cut the mute wire at both ends and see if there is grounding, hopefully it will work, if not, I see it getting expensive:doh:

I have manually reset all the units apart from the CD changer in the glove box but the battery has been disconnected.

If that doesn't work, I have booked it into a local specialist to have a service and a de-cat and they have said that they should be able to diagnose it for free although I'll see if the Mrs' can pop in and pick a POST connector to try and get her some music earlier.

Are any other amplifier units compatible with ours? it's a Harman/Becker A 169 820 80 89 and looks like a Hedgehog with a fan in it, Logic 7(iirc).

We had a BMW 545i last and the stereo sounded a lot better, I'm wondering if it will be cheaper to replace the lot with somthing modern, Do you think it'll affect the resale value much if it has all the same features, I can put a modern system in for less than I can see an amplifier and bluetooth adapter costing although I can't seem to find a steering wheel adapter for anything after a 2004 car for an aftermarket stereo.
