Company Car - advice please.

Are you talking about the older or the current prius?

Previous. They just changed didn't they.

And have you tried reading the manual on the auto-park stuff?

If they got the visibility sorted you wouldn't be so dependent on it:rolleyes:

Using HMRC maximum allowances of 40ppm for 10k miles then 25ppm thereafter:

12k miles = £4500
15k miles = £5250

If fuel in the C32 costs 15ppm (?), then your fuel costs will be

12k miles = £1800
15k miles = £2250

How old is your C32 and what depreciation would you expect with the above mileage?

Generally there looks to be sufficient margin to run a second-hand C32. I presume you still like the car, so I'd continue to use it.

You mean tax Free allowances. The Company can pay what they like but any excess over the allowance is taxable, just as any loss is tax refundable.

You also need to add in the BIK rate and income tax rate being levied to get to a proper figure.
Say a car at £18k with 18% BIK rate so at 22% is £712 p.a, at 40% is £1296.

Even losing money is cheaper than keeping the C32 as a second car.

For Prius .......read Pious............Diesel is better for economy in real world driving..

Bear in mind the Company car is hassle free - no insurance worries - no maintenance worries - no depreciation worries - in fact the only worry you have is down to "does it cost more"...but then what price do you put on complete peace of mind.

Most of my colleagues that run company cars have copied me although mine isn't and they are all running Volvo V50 or C30 1.6d Drive £80 / month for a 40% tax payer and you get all the toys for that as well reasonably quick car and 65 mpg would recommend a test drive

Diesel is better for cruising in many cases, but there's not a diesel auto which can match the real world economy of the prius that's the same size.

Hull - manchester - hull, £15 of petrol in the prius, that's 60mpg. Yes you can probably do it driving for economy in a 318d or similar, but not city centre to city centre, it's the urban bit where the prius really wins. Only thing I don't like about them is the handling (not a B road car...) and the response in crosswinds (narrow, low resistance tyres, slab sided profile, overlight steering)

And when it comes to company cars, it's the tax band rather than the economy that counts to the user!

One of my team has a Prius, and he gets 65-75 mpg travelling between two our offices which are about 70 miles apart, almost none of which is urban. I think that's incredible - I'd expected it to be awful for that sort of journey.

...and the other feature of taking the car allowance and buying wisely is when you are made redundant (21 Nov 2009 probably ) you can drive home from work on your last day
