Confused over winter wheels

Newbie here which may go some way to explaining my dumb question!

I'm trying to work out the correct size of wheel I need as a winter set for my 2010 w203 CLC 180 Sport. Having looked at the various threads on here I still remain confused. The owners handbook it doesn't mention anything about winter wheel size for cars with the sport package under which it just states the details re Summer use 18" standard wheels. There is mention of wheels for other models (SE I assume) so would these be okay to use? Size quoted is 7.5j x 17 h2 et 36

Cheers in advance for any guidance.

Does it not say on the sticker for tyres pressures?

You need to ensure that the wheels will fit over the brakes if you have the sport package. I had a W203 with Sports Brakes and this needed a minimum of 17" wheels, which ruled out steel rims.

I would also try to get some wheels that aren't staggered.

What is the reason for winter wheels/alloys?. Am just curious

Winter tyres do not get rigid when the temp drops below 7c(ish) so they offer greater traction. Wheels would be needed for a few reasons.
A, its easier to just swap wheels with tyres included when the time comes.
B, your summers could be much wider than your winters so the tyres wouldn't fit your wheels. ie my rears are 255 but may well drop to skinnies (185) for winters and finally
C, if I had decent summer allows, I may not want to risk kerb damage/road salt damage to my alloys so I would use a cheap pair of steal rims.

It all makes sense now

Hi, lived in Bavaria for 7 years, winter tyres do make a big difference more so when stopping! If any one is unsure about tyre/ wheel combos check your EG-Ubereinstimmungsbescheinigung( certificate of conformity) on the back page of remarks (anmerkungen if you don't have the translated version) you will normally see all the various possibilities that Benz approves!

I recently ordered a complete set of four Mercedes original wheels and winter tyres for my 2013 W212 E class estate on Ebay from http://stores.ebay.co.uk/premiumwheelshst/

The wheels are totally unmarked and the tyres had 2x7mm and 2x6mm tread all for £800 plus £95 postage which covered courier from Germany and delivery by Royal Mail. A saving of £700 of what Mercedes would charge for the package brand new.

You don't realise the benefit of Winter tyres until you have had them.....
