Every so often you come across an old car picture that seems to have a greater significance than the scene it depicts. It tells you something about the people driving it, a place, or a moment in time. This is a favorite of mine. Wonder if anyone knows where its from.

Dave my guess is your pic is a still from D.A.Pennebakers's excellent 1967 DON'T LOOK BACK where he was chauffeured around in a Austin Princess limo AFAIK?? Featured a permanently drunk Alan Price just after he split from the Animals.

Not quite Graeme, It's actually taken (by Barry Feinstein) on the 1966 tour, in May, travelling between gigs at the Colston Hall, Bristol, and Cardiff. He's waiting for the Aust Ferry (Severn Bridge hadn't been finished). Just before the 'Judas' concert at Manchester Free Trade Hall.
Still can't place your pic.....

My Own Private Idaho? (I'm guessing now.....;) )

Really? Thats not my experience of modern Drag Racing. Do what you want if you think it'll get you over the line faster.

Great pic though. What bike is it do you know? Triumph?

It's from the sleeve note's to this classic:-

Ah yes, this photo really sums up the whole mood of the album.
I have a nice story about an encounter with The Boss (involving a car) I'll share with you sometime.

Controlled wheelies are one thing , on the back wheel with the tyre smoking would be frowned upon.

This is a nitro burning bike as well , they have evolved somewhat , they look like this nowadays

Tell us the story about your encounter with the "boss" Always like to hear about forum members' rubbing shoulders with the stars.

OK Graeme, I don’t like to name drop, but hey, I did this sort of work for 20 years, it was my job, so no apologies.
It was back in 1987 on the US leg of U2’s Joshua Tree tour, at the JFK stadium in Philadelphia. The show had just started, and I was walking across the truck compound to meet with my trucking crew chief and discuss some itinerary matters. A beat up rusty old white early ‘70s Plymouth with four blokes inside trundled in, pulled up to me, and Springsteen climbed out of the driving seat, dressed in jeans and leather jacket. He’d just driven down the New Jersey Turnpike with his mates, to come and watch the gig. They hadn’t made the normal guest pass arrangements in advance, just jumped in the banger with a few six-packs, and come on spec. He apologised for bothering me, but was there any way they could get hold of some guest passes and watch the gig? Very polite and humble. Of course I went back to the production office to sort it out pronto. I was impressed with his whole attitude and respect. He appreciated that we were working, and didn’t want to get in the way! It reminded me of that scene in The Deer Hunter, when they all pile in DeNiro’s beat-up ’59 Caddy and drive into the mountains - regular blue collar guys out for a jolly. Not a hint of Rock Star.

Excellent story.

Excellent and very much in line with other peoples experience of Springsteen.
Ironically the first label to sign him envisaged him as a rival to Bob Dylan for some reason? Go figure! Early live performances elicited this oft quoted comment from Rolling Stone's John Landau in 1974 " I saw rock and roll future and its called Bruce Springsteen" thanks for the story.
