Hi

returned from a 150 mile trip, non stop as per usual, doing the usual speed about 70 and under a 100 - cars got 24k showing and just over 2 years old - c180k auto - coolant low warning came twic and tep rose to 95 and rose to that near home in slow traffic as well - will check the levels tomorrow - taking car for 'A' service, and mentioned on another thread, which I will update.

Q: Is it normal to lose coolant/top up around 24k - the cars over the 30 yrs of drving and the more modern cars over the last 10 years, never needed to top up

Thanks:crazy: :(

btw, the coolant level light came on twice.

Coolant is normally adviseable to be changed by MB every 3 years but some say 2 years just to get the business... Ford say coolant on their cars needs changing after 5 years....

If car is under warranty then get this checked out at Stealership but from what yo have described their may posisbly be a leak. Have a look at the coolant tank (when not warm) and physically inspect the level yourself. It is posisble that it is a faulty sensor playing up. Has the warning come up again since after the trip?

This is potentially serious. Could be something really minor..or a head gasket problem.

But this sort of problem could result in a wrecked engine if not checked out. And note that if you describe the problem you had to the dealer they may not cover you under warranty ('you continued to drive, sir, despite the warning on the dash...and the new engine is not covered due to your contributory negligence' or 'you delayed contacting us and this caused more damage...you will need to contribute to the £2800 for the new engine'.

So, please be careful what you say.

Good point - Do not shoot yourself in the foot and invalidate the warranty by saying that your drove 200 miles plus since the warnings came up...

THANK YOU ALL

Will check again tomorrow and see if light comes up again and itf it does, will take it t the muggership.
