Hi everyone,

Just thought I'd post this in a seperate thread for ease of finding.

I'm looking to flush and refill the coolant system properly following the recent work that I've done (head overhaul).

I'm also going to be fitting the new type MB metal thermostat cover/cap.

What is the best coolant to use on my car - 1990 190E 2.5-16? Is MB coolant the best and worth the money, or is their a better product out there?

I intend to buy the best concentrate and mix it to the correct ratio with Reverse-Osmosis water.

Thanks,

Will

Comma coolants are a quality product and the Coldstream contains additional wetting agents to further enhance thermal transfer.

I would go for the green three year product.

Excellent, I wonder how it compares price-wise to the MB stuff? Not that this is a real issue on the grand scheme of things.

Does anyone know who the OEM for MB coolant is by any chance also?

Cheers,

Will

I was told it was made by Febi but not sure.

Not sure about the price comparison but Comma really is one of the best, it far exceeds the BS requirements.
I wouldn't get too hooked up on the water, as long as it doesn't contain limescale it should be ok.

Thanks Dieselman,

Looks as though the Comma stuff is a good bet, I'll see if I can locate some.

The only reason I'll be using RO water is that I have access to endless supplies of it for nothing - won't hurt, especially as water in London is pretty hard.

Cheers,

Will

Call me a sucker, but the one thing I always stick with is MB Coolant...oh and MB Brakes and Pads

MB Coolant is £20 for 5 litres

I'm at MB tomorrow to pick some parts up, I might end up getting the coolant from there?

Will

I was charged £32 for 5 litres of coolant from MB in Croydon, is £20 trade price?

Was that supply from parts counter or when the car was in the workshop?

This was from the parts counter.

Purchased some today for £20 from the parts counter at Greenoakes in Reading and got my usual 10% discount for being a member of MBOC...other than that no special deal.
