Hi there :)

As my username suggests, I have a 420SE. The car in itself is in great condition in and out, yet the alloys are really quite bruised :(

I would like to change them. I have the alloys with the 8 holes.

These are my questions:

1. What size are the standard alloys on a 420SE?

2. What is the correct offset for the 420SE (1989 model)

3. What is the biggest size alloys that I can fit, which won't result in any rubbing at all whatsoever, be it on full lock or with passengers and which wont changing handling.

If any members wish to suggest any alloys that look good on the 420SE, please feel free to do so.

Many thanks :)

Try these guys, I'm sure they will point you in the right direction.

Cheers, Bill.

All depends on your budget and weather you want brand new or used alloys ;)

High quality finished alloys that are after market (brand new) at reasonal prices are available from the following suppliers listed below. Speak to them and they shall be able to assist you with all the technical details:

http://www.pirellityres.net/contactus.html - you have to click on "Catalogue" first and then "Mercedes Alloy Wheel Packages"

http://www.performancealloys.com

They both do alloy/wheel packages - wheels are delivered fully balanced to your doorstep. The wheels also come with a warranty... ;)

Its a W126... (a generation before the W140) - I dont think that the above shall apply to the W126 - but I could be wrong...)

Normally 265-40-17 at the back.

Normally SL wheels fit the W126 fine.

18 inch wheels will fit with 8.5J at the front and 10J at the rear. ET20-25max. Nothing wider than this is recommended.

Which generation of SL?

R129 - There is alot of room in the arches of a W126... The car defnitely needs big alloys/wheels which suit it well...

129 shares wheels with 124, 170, 201, 202, 203, 208, 209, 210 etc. Does that mean the 126 can be added to that list? :)
