So the old bus passed its MOT, with a couple of advisorys relating to corroded fuel and brake pipes. is this a common issue? I haven't had a look at them myself, so haven't been able to judge how corroded they may be, but is this something I need to be jumping on, or can they show some corrosion for a while before they are likely to fail?

MB fit steel pipes. Steel corrodes, especially under the clamps.

Presumably the tester thought they were safe at the minute or he wouldn't have passed it. That said, one of my brake lines started leaking about 5 months after it was passed with no advisories. I'd guess a fail likely next year, either an expensive job or a lot of work depending if you are a DIY'er.

if they are rusting you should have a look and at least give em a quick wire brush then cover em with grease. that will buy you some time.

As already said they mainly fail under the clamps so if you only do the easy bits you've left the worst bits. To be effective you would need to remove the clamps and rubbers and do under there too.

As this but an alternative is rub them down and you can buy anti corrosion brake pipe paint to paint them with and they will serve many years longer assuming they are not paper thin at the moment

This sounds like a good first move - I'll check em out as soon as I get chance
