Corrosion to rear subframe advice

My 2013 E250 with only 67000miles failed MOT due to subframe corrosion. After inspectiion the Mercedes dealer consulted Mercedes and agreed to replace the subframe under warranty. But they insisted on a pre-authorised £250 for any work (or parts replacement) “THEY” feel needed during the process of replacing the subframe - ie they go ahead and spend without consulting me up to £250 . They now called me to ask me to pay for £29.28for 4 sets of bolts and nuts !!!. Few years ago we had a similar issue with our C280, and it was replaced all free.

I feel it is a cheek to ask me to pay for the bolts and nuts replacing the subframe.

Has anyone experienced this similarly?
It's been mentioned before, along with brake lines (a favourite) and other suspension parts. If all you have to pay is £30 I'd say you got away pretty cheap, (but watch out for other requests for more dosh). Saying this the subframe shoudn't have corroded away in the first place should it?

One option no one has mentioned is to just sell the car or trade it in somewhere . Why not start by seeing what We Buy Any Car would offer for it . It is unlikely a dealer would look at a subframe , and if you et a low ball offer you are not obliged to take it .

Of course if the car was stolen , your insurance would have to remunerate you for it ...

Trouble is, like myself in last 3 weeks, most owners using indies will not know there is a sub-frame issue until it fails at MOT.
Only Dealers have been ‘discreetly’ issued a service bulletin to particularly check this component, which generally is only a visual check at MOT’s.

Previously mine has passed without issue (with misc other advisories), this year,
FAILED out of blue with subframe failure, instantly recorded on DVLA MOT system!

So then <4 weeks to fix or replace, MBUK make you ‘dance’ to their tune, dealers can’t fit the work in urgently, plus sometimes add other advisory ‘needs’ such as corroded brake pipes as potential failure work, meaning totally uneconomic repair!

If you try to P/x, MOT failure has been recorded, meaning car value is diddly squat!

Basically, without some form of mandatory UK DVLA recall, or class action (like for emissions), anyone with older car subframe issues is shafted and at best is reliant upon MB ‘goodwill’,
at worse out of pocket by several thousand for loss of residual P/x value.

In the case of the OP he got an MOT pass with an advisory about the subframe two months ago , so with a recent MOT he has plenty of scope to sell or trade the car , and lots of places or buyers won’t look at advisories as long as they get an MOT with a decent amount of time on it .
