MB free subframe replacement - anyone had a 205 C Class done yet?

You think i should post every single thread ? 🤣
tbf you might want to leave it at this. You’re entitled to your opinion on Japanese cars, but all the evidence, above and beyond, is against you. Always your call though……😃

Open ended subframe, right by the wheels, is a terrible design, they could have extended the wheel arch liners, to cover the open ends, would have helped to stop crud buildup inside the frame, personally I have extended the liners, with thick plastic film, but it would have been better they did it from factory. I had it done last year from Mercedes free of charge.
I had an SLK, 2007 model and the subframe had a crack. I booked the car in at Mercedes in Beaconsfield and the same day the car got inspected, the same day it got approved for a new one. The whole thing worked out just under £4500 and I didn't pay anything.
I was told I might have to pay for bolts and washers, which would have added up to around £250 but when I went to pick the car up , they said Mercedes covered the cost for that also.
Mercedes offers 30 years warranty on corrosion and it doesn't matter how many miles the car has done or if it has service records. As long as it hasn't been touched or repaired, they will change it no problem.

Don't think the subframe is covered by that.....just covers body panels and even then they have to rust through from the inside. The subframe thing is part of Mercedes goodwill process....and the fact that they have been hit hard financially in the US in court over this.

Have to disagree. Have owned and run several Japanese designed and built Lexus, including. saloons, 4x4 and V8 grand tourers. All went over 10 years + without a sniff of sub frame nonsense a la Mercedes, or any other major issues for that matter. So which Japanese manufacturer/models do you say are suffering with sub frame issues at 10 years plus?

The Toyota Hilux is legendary for it.

The Hilux, like the Ford Ranger, had a sub frame issue with a specific batch built in South Africa and sold in the UK. The Hilux reputation as a virtually indestructible beast, a la Top Gear, is well deserved and renowned world wide. The big reason for subframe corrosion on the Hilux worldwide is due to age, the things just keep on going for decades. The Hilux is legendary, but for longevity, not for subframe collapses…

My step son is a plumber and bought a Hilux for work last year ... it was reasonably recent (definitely not decades old) and turned out to be rotten underneath. He'd been told when buying it that the 'normal' problem areas had been sorted (welded), but couldn't verify this as underseal had been applied on top. IIRC he did manage to reject it and get his money back. The 'bad batch' supposedly ran from 2009 to 2012 but still lots of reports of problems after that. No doubting that mechanically they are great though.
