ok, had my car a few days, still finding stuff out and generally feeling my way through things, and i have a couple of questions.

First - To do with back lighting, or label illumination
On the light switch panel on the right hand side, this one....

when the lights are on the mirror labels light up as does the light bulb and marker on the dial switch, but what does not light up on mine are the labels around the dial, if i turn it to main lights and turn pull the switch out to put on the fog lights, the 2 small fog light symbols are lit..... but at all stages the ring of labels around the dial switch are not lit.

is this normal ? seems to me like they should all be back lit.

Second - it seems the top 3 bars on the rear screen heater/demister are not working, is this a common thing, has anyone seen this before ? or is there maybe a lower setting that does not put all of the heating bars on ??

sorry if these seem daft questions, the labels around the light switch seem no different to the mirror labels when viewed in daylight so i can't really tell ! and i havent been able to get a dry day when i can have a proper look at the tracks for the heated rear screen

The lighting symbols around the switch are not lit.

As for your heated rear screen, it sounds like some over-zealous cleaning may have broken the elements! Easily fixed with some stuff you can obtain from a Motor Factors or Halfrauds.

The labels around the light switch don't illuminate, strange IMHO but as I leave it on 'Auto' it doesn't really bother me.

Thank you for the very speedy reply.... i thought it was odd they weren't lit, because many i have seen lately, there is only one bulb in each area and it's left to prisms to bounce the light around, so thought it was odd they weren't lit.

As for the rear screen thats what i wondered, i will have to take a closer look at it and see if i can see anything, car is still under the small warranty i got, so might try and have them deal with it if i can take it somewhere like an autoglass centre locally, will have to get a better look in the dry.

Thought of a 3rd question too .... I seem to have some condensation in one of my front lights, nothing major, just didnt notice any in the other, now wheather her has been either wet, or frosty since i picked the car up.... so havent had a good chance to look closer at this, but is a little condensation anything to worry about ? (it has the Bi-Xenons fitted from manufacture)

EDIT:
i too was leaving them in auto, until i found you can't put the fog lights on in auto mode !!

Been looking at/thinking about this rear heating element issue ... can't rellay investigate further right now, but i did have a look at it yesterday, could not see any broken tracks in the visible area before the tracks go out of site behind the trim.
Also these elements are not visible from inside in the drivers seat.....

Is it possible that these tracks i am looking at, are not actually part of the heating element, but are part of the integrated aerial in the rear glass ?

Have just re-read your first post and yes, more than likely, the top 3 is the aerial. It certainly is on my E Class

ok, thanks, the track pattern is not as i would have normally expected for a heated rear screen, my initial understanding of the aerials involved was that they were integrated into the trim around the rear hatch, thus allowing easy retro fit, whilst keeping costs down.... however, one thing i am learning with MB, is that if there is an easy and cost effective method, you'll find them doing the opposite :p .... then there was one of the descriptions, which made me realise/believe it is integrated into the glass... that made me wonder about those 3 i dont have working !!!

Thanks for the possible confirmation, if your E class was like that, then i'm thinking this is very likely to be the same arrangement

update:

looks like it is the aerial, now its not raining i've gone out and had a look, and the top three tracks are actually split into 3 blocks, left centre, right and have 3 horizontal tracks to each block and are separate to the other tracks, so i think they are the aerial !

cheers guys
