Could these issues be related?

Car
C220 CDI Estate
I’ve been away for 7 months and have left my car with my mum. Upon return I’ve received my car with a few issues:

-Engine warning light
-Auto wipers faulty
-Remote key appears to have reduced range.

I had the car (2012 C220 CDI Estate) plugged into a Snap On OBD tool and it says the ‘soot content is not ok’. Fine, code cleared and drive 90mins to burn off soot at 70mph. EML has returned twice now.

I also did some research into the wipers, the sensor is clean and the next recommended step is to check the fuse.

When trying to decipher which fuse is responsible (still no idea btw) I discovered a thing called a SAM unit which deals with the cars sensors. I also found a claim saying that a faulty SAM unit could produce faulty remote central locking performance issues.

My question is this: could the DPF and rain sensor actually be ok but a faulty SAM unit be throwing up an incorrect soot reading/causing the wipers to not work?

What other sensors are handled by this unit that I could test? (For example the auto lights seem unaffected).

If this is not possible then what are my next best courses of action?

Thanks in advance!

I was just about to type the same regarding the battery.

The battery reads 12v and 14v when idling. Is there anything else to check?

12 V is low. It should be around 12.4 to 12.6 with no load and more like 14.6 V at idle.

Get someone to rev engine when checking charge voltage - it will/should increase slightly

I would get a charger on it overnight and then check how things are in the morning. Low battery equals all sorts of weirdness with modern cars.

Has it been in use over those seven months?

In addition to comments already made above, reduced range w8ih the key is indicative of low battery in the handset.

No, DPF sensor goes via engine ecu and not related to SAM. Assuming it was driven over this time, it likely has a boost leak causing the DPF to fill. Differential pressure sensors also fail, so worth a check of the values.

Key range is likely a depleted key battery, give it a change and that will probably sort that

Auto wipers, do they do nothing at all, or wipe constantly etc?

Hello and welcome . Did you by any chance leave your mum any instructions on what to do (or not to do) with your car during your seven month absence ?

Drive it from time to time perhaps ?

Tyres might need looking at once you get it running as well....
