CPU usage.

If you don't run games and only want Office, internet, etc, pretty much any old PC will suffice.

I have an old IBM X21 laptop that has a P2 600 processor and 384mb of (non DDR) RAM. It runs Win 2000 and is absolutely fine.

I thought it was just me.
I'm using an old Evesham tower running athlon 850 processor and 384mb ram Xp Pro and Office pro and some others.

Still running on one original 40Gb Seagate drive after years, in fact 7 years old Today....
Run two HDD with one as backup and the other partitioned for programs/files.
Could be quicker to boot but otherwise no problems.

Original cost £2325. Wow how things change.
