Hi everyone,

Recently I've noticed that my tweeters and the centre speaker in the CLS have started making crackling noises, mist noticeable with the radio.

Any idea's for replacement ones?

Thanks

Hi Don, have a similar problem with a crackling noise, it was coming from one of the tweeters (passenger side) so i will be replacing my tweeter with another HK one.

I have two more spares as well i can bring to TRAX if you want and we can check if it is ur tweeters at fault. You can go after market and TRAX is a good place to get some tweeters cheap.

the HK Logic 7 tweeter is also a 4ohm unit so you can use almost any 4ohm tweeter.

Hi everyone,

Recently I've noticed that my tweeters and the centre speaker in the CLS have started making crackling noises, mist noticeable with the radio.

If multiple speakers have all started doing it only recently, I suggest the fault is elsewhere in the audio chain- and if it's only with radio, could perhaps be interference?

Ah thanks Alps, yes we can check it out at TRAX.

I think the speakers are probably coming to the end of their life, if I can get decent ones, wouldn't mind replacing them with a different brand!

Thanks for the link Grober!

Could be that I haven't noticed it until now!

This was me sitting in the car without the engine running and checking the audio system on it's own. There seems to be another fault that the the whole system seems to "cut-out" for a few seconds, whereby all the sound/music, GPS, Tel stops working for a few seconds and resets itself and continues working. This is regardless of the source and how long the system has been operational for.

Those e46 speakers do look nice, but there's no feedback from the first buyer yet...

MB HK speakers are made pretty well, they are not the paper speakers that you can see on that link and do have plastic cones with rubber surround, they are actually much like the uprated ones on that link.

Only problem with the HK setup is the volume level is not very high so people tend to turn them up too high and pop the speakers which cause crackling at lower volumes, esp on the tweeters.

Now that makes me wonder if I did pop them when I "tested" how loud it can go! I can try your spare ones a TRAX and if they work, can buy them off you!
