Just been told by MB body shop at Brentford that repairs will cost just shy of £8000 and will take 3-4 weeks. Still a good result as far as I'm concerned.
When you see the above picture it makes you think about the 7 seater option on the Estates, im sure MB to have tested it and the estates are stronger but still.
Im reminded of this everytime im sat behind a LDV school bus with the back row seats touching the rear window glass.

That's sadly not been the case with full vehicle development projects I've worked on (none MB).
AKAIK within Europe there are no rear impact tests that measure human injury levels, only those for fuel integrity and door openability. I'll have a look again to be sure though.
edit: the test does measure movement of the rear occupant's hips, but this is not correlated to injury
Just a quick update. The car is still with MB Brentford to have the crash damage repaired but I had a call from a MB call centre yesterday telling me the car was now subject to a 'P148 Injector recall', and asking if I wanted it booked into the dealer I bought the car from. I explained the situation and MB have arranged for the injectors to be replaced by MB Brentford once the crash damage is repaired. Not being one to take yes for an answer I just phoned MB Brentford who said all was in place to carry out injector change and that it would take a day to complete.
Hope this helps anyone who is in doubt about a recall on injectors.
Mine performed very admirably when I was hit by a Cavalier travelling at 40mph while I was sat stationary (with SBC hold) at lights.
The cars are built to withstand Autobahn pileups, the day they restrict speed completely on the Autobahn will be the day BMW, Mercedes and Audi stop topping the charts in real world accident survivability.

I take your point but if the repair is not up to scratch (pardon the pun) I wont accept it. And if there was another rear end and the car did not perform as it should then they would be liable to a civil claim so I imagine they are very careful and if anything would make the car more capable of taking a shunt.
