Right guys, really clocking up the motorway miles with work at the minute. Problem is, my right foot is eventually going to get me into trouble

The solution (and an excuse for another mod) is going to be fitting cruise control.

Is there anything that i should be looking out for? I know it cant come from a diesel, but are there any other requirements? Eg, engine size a factor? Pre/post facelift?

Mine's never had CC, but i assume fitting it is possible? I've found this below, but im not sure it will be as simple as just plugging it in!

Will it coming from a LHD make any difference? If anyone can give me a brief description of how it all works and what bits are involved then i'll get scavenging and see what i can find!

Thought this one would be a good one for the HOW-TO, and will certainly make the car a little more luxurious :)

As ever, comments are much appreciated!

on german ebay the part number given in that thread is different, yet the part is the same, if I get it from german ebay I make a saving of 40-50 quid, do you reckon it is the same part or will there be differences? when I put the number on the thread and the one on german ebay into Inchape they come up as the same thing for the same cost.

Post which one's cheapest when you find out! This mod is turning out great, next i'll find out i can add 40bhp with an old washing up bottle and some lolipop sticks :bannana:

The stalk isnt cheap from the stealer, unless you know someone like an indie who will get you a substantial parts discount. The cost new from Inchape is £80 (or thereabouts) including VAT. The cost from german ebay, including postage is 30-40 quid.

A2085450424 Switch Automatic £69.80
A2085450124 Switch Automatic £69.80 (german ebay)

The switch from ebay is used from a C200 (hence it's cheaper, sorry my bad).

My question is, the description is the same when the part number goes into Inchape, but would this make a difference to fitting and function?

Must've gone up since the original thread!

Always an easy one to get from a breakers too i guess, although new from german ebay would be better. Do you have a link?

Appears to be from a diesel, and i've been told that diesel and petrol is different and wont inter-change. Not sure why this would be though so can anyone confirm otherwise?

CLK 320 cruise control

116,000 miles. crappy factory fitted corroding AMG wheels. 225 front 245 backs. Original car in 1999 had bridgestone P1 tyres. Tend to re-fit in pairs two on the back as they wear first then two on the front. As time went on P1s became hard to find and P2s were fitted CC continued to work fine until I had a mix of P3 and P2 when the CC would work on any given journey up to 65 - as long as I had not exceeded that speed - or over 115mph. No help from MB but I called Bridgestone and finally found someone that said the mix of tread patterns might cause it. I eventually wore the tyres enough to get back to a mix of P1 and P3 and all was fine again. So MB switched to Michelins and I had heart in mouth as the change was initiated. Hoorah all worked. Then one day it again stopped working at 65 and has been that way ever since. I asked the loacl dealer to investigate and was eventually told that the throttle valve might be worn but that it would cost £1000 to replace. I loved life with a CC and it annoys me every day but for a grand.......
Any alternate suggestions? Tyre wear is even across the axles and not so far away back to front. Original AMG wheels although the corrosion might have left them slightly different weights.

Swap wheels and tyres with someone at a GTG and take it for a drive. Practically any saloon (non-flagship) wheels and tyres will work although I'd suggest 16" or above depending on brakes. Will take you about 20 mins to swap all the wheels if there are a few of you and could save you a grand!

Good luck! :)

I have 16" sport's with michelin sport's on all corners, you're welcome to give them a go if you're at the south GTG!

Might it be to do with engine timings being different in petrol and diesel engines? I know that yours is a newer model than mine, but can cruise control be fitted to my car the same way or will I need more parts?

Yours probably needs a lot more parts. There is a complete retrofit kit but it's expensive.

Facelift models are drive-by-wire so a lot easier to add cruise to. As for petrol/diesel differences if we're just adding a stalk to the car and relying on the ECU to do all the hard work I'd say there is no difference between petrol or diesel, it's just a stalk. Check the Russian EPC to be certain.

I think a 208 part should fit as they are derived from 202. Possibly just the end of the stalk is a different shape.

Does anyone know if the part no is the same for a C280 1996 w202? and if it's just a switch change and progamme switch?

If yours is pre-facelift it is a much more complicated job im afraid mate. :(

I have managed to get hold of a well priced cruise control stalk (big thanks to Olly from Prestige Car Services.... AGAIN:))

I am going to attempt to fit this during the week, so i can programme it at the weekend. Only thing is i need the steering wheel/airbag off. I have the trusty Haynes, but does anyone have any hints/tips before i have a go?

I'd like to save the airbag for special occasions if at all possible :D

Also, if someone could measure how far clockwise from the centre of the indicator stalk the centre of the cruise control stalk is, i'll be able to hack the hole in the right place!

I will do a full HOW-TO, so thanks for any help you can give me!
