Had a moron reverse into my car on Saturday, pushing the front into railings to modify both ends. As I was looking over the car to check damage found the usual blister of rust coming through........aaaaaaaaargh. Have phoned the bodyshop who are doing the accident repairs, (Merc Auth Repairer) who also do the warranty resprays, and they have agreed to go over my car and give me a list of all paint defects they can find so I can submit one claim for all. Had a new boot lid fitted in January under warranty with 90,000+ miles, see what they say with 102,000 miles.

I never realised that a traffic accident can cause rust. It's two claims even if you dont have to pay for one. It just appears like one trip to the body shop.

How long is the body work warranty for, would my 1998 C180 still be eligble ?

When removing my front wheels I noticed a little rust to the inside of the suspension turret but this would probably be put down to stone chips also to a rear inside wheel arch. I have also noticed some tiny craze marks from under the paint like a spider, not yet broken through but visible to the eye, also I have noticed that my front bumper has been resprayed at some point but by whom I do not know, I bought my car from the main dealer so I really do not know where I stand with it all.

He means he will have the car inspected and submit one large claim to MB for rust.

This sounds about par for the course. If the car hasn't had the affected panels repaired outside the MB approved repairer network then you should be covered. My local dealer told me MB are now allowing claims on cars upto eight years old.

It will be interesting to see what they do with the spring hanger rust as this could be very expensive.

Thanks for that.

I will march up to my Merc Dealer and ask them to do the same, a paintwork assessment, to see if my door pillar rust is eligible for a free mend :)

Ta.

Just rang the main dealer asking about body work warranty and he could not give me a definite cut off point for year of manufacture wheter 6, 8 or 30 years, he said bring it down so we can check it out for paint thickness / unauthorised non approved body shop repairs. I also asked about servicing as I have had the car for 12 months now and he says wait until your service indicator tells you or have it serviced after 2 years (as I am a low mileage user) which I thought was very good of him, could of easily of ripped me off. Regarding the body work, if it gets approved will they for an additional fee remove the 2 dents from my bonnet while they have the paint mixed, would the rust on the bonnet just be touched up or would it have a complete bonnet re spray. When I say rust it isn't bad rust just looks like a spider under the paintwork on the bonnet around the grille, by a rear door pillar and on a wheel arch inner lip.
