I really think you should give the side steps a a couple of weeks trial before you decide to ditch them. I actually went the other way and added them to my wood burning GLE back in 2017. Maybe the GLE is a little taller, but both my wife and I found entry and exit easier with the steps:dk:

That’s a good point, worth persevering a little while before making a decision. I use them and I’m not particularly short.

It sounds quite obvious but you really do need to make sure your foot is securely on the step before putting any weight on them.
 
Howsabout a one week in update? Still "chuffed tae the gutties"?
Absolutely no regrets at all Mike. It’s had very little uses since returning home on Monday but we’re delighted with everything.

The running boards as nice as they look are just a pest for Mrs Ant. The projection (around 125mm) means that she can’t get as near as ideal to the seat to get in. I understand the comments about being patient but I knew right away they don’t suit her disability.
