Shouting and swearing at them might not get you anywhere...

surley there must be some right if the car doesn't get fixed and back to us to day that she should recieve a car till the problem is put right!

Nope...!!!

I'm not being funny here, but it's always A class owners get upset about car repairs and coutesy cars.
At the local emporium they were using some Smart cars as loaners at one time and A class drivers rant about getting a Smart not being good enough as they own a Mercedes, whereas S class drivers just get in and say..'see you later'...

I personally don't care as long as it moves.

no well i have tried the calm polite manner and thats done me no good so am going for the grumpy upset and destressed way bcause this is really getting me down now and its alot of cash to loose out on! i thought that the customer is always right?? in my line of work if i had done what they have done i think i would be joining the line at the post office Q picking up my dole money!!!!!!

What exactly is wrong with the car?

tappets, exhaust , gears clunk when putting in to gear , gearbox, when u get up to 70mph the whole car shakes but not the steering wheel! there is a grinding noise coming from within the engine which sound like metal to metal and this is only what i can see and hear so far!!!

I know its difficult for some people top remain cool in these situations but from what you are telling us you are in a very strong position so there is no point at all getting wound up. It's only when people are losing the argument that the volume goes up.

I've had a problem with my local Saab dealer (sold the car last year) over a faulty tyre. When I was trying to get things resolved with them I became even more calmly and quietly spoken the more I increased the level of seriousness of my argument…it worked.

No one listens to someone shouting at them but if you are EXTREMELY firm but polite then people often do take notice.

If you’re getting no joy from the person you’re dealing with then simply ask to speak to someone else. If you still don’t get any joy then go to Mercedes.

In these cases its persistency rather than volume that gets things sorted.

hip hip hurry they called they r willing to change the car for the same value! advice be grumpy and forward with a little anger

I have just been playing a game where you have to match the pictures, I then thought of this.

A matched pair

To be honest they did'nt really have a choice no matter how you dealt with them. You were always in the right.

I take it that you'll be in charge of test driving this one!!!!

Or maybe less grumpy and angry and they would have passed your cheque straight back (which was your right as the car was clearly not fit for purpose)

And then you could have bought a car at your leisure and anywhere you want. You think they're going to cut you a good deal after shouting at them?

i will defo be taking it for a test drive! and then the wife can! she must of had blinkers on or thoght it was a shopping trolly!!! haaha as for a deal they better cut me some slack after this carryon!!!!

You think they're going to cut you a good deal after shouting at them?

They might just to "get rid of him". I can see why folk get agitated, but there is a cooling off period and it can be invoked with no quibble. The dealer knew this and did that. Its no real victory over them, I'd probably want my money back and maybe buy from another dealership with better quality controls.

I've recently been in negotiation with Pirelli about some tyres which had a manufacturing fault, and which was only recognised at 12,000 miles or so.

A technician from their lab called me today, and he actually said that because I'd been so pleasant and patient through, then they'd refund me 100% rather than reduce it due to wear during the period the tyres were used.

He said almost everyone he deals with shouts, screams, and makes bold claims about suing Pirelli unless they get exactly what they want, and so a more relaxed approach is a relief to them. They're only human afterall, and so they're more inclined to go the extra mile if you're pleasant with them.

A big thumbs up to Pirelli - just waiting to see how long it takes the tyre fitting centre to actually send me a cheque now!!
