I am very angry at these people trying to cycle up a 10-15% hill on an A road taking up a whole lane.

I had to do emergency breaking when one such idiot appeared right in front of me in the middle of the lane (there was a steep hill on a turn with poor visibility in the distance). The two lanes were merging and another motorist was on the second lane - he also had to break hard. And this is all thanks to one suicidal 'sportsman' who can't find a suitable cycle path. He should consider himself lucky.

Another few encounters I had before were even better. Imagine the steepest and the most winded narrow B road. If you have TomTom you will sooner or later take one of these. Now imagine 5 mad cyclists going down at well over 40-50mph right in the middle of the road. They should also consider themselves lucky.

Seriously, there must be some law banning such irresponsible behaviour. They cause too many accidents in the rural areas, and even A roads.

For you , the consequences are likely to be a dented car , and a bit of hassle with insurance and/or , possibly , the police .

For them , the consequences are likely to be much worse, possibly involving a black estate car and a pine box .

Indeed, Derek. I find that that is the right mindset to have. Particularly helpful when you are head of a growing queue of traffic that has been slowed to 10-15mph for some distance behind a cyclist for want of a safe overtaking place...

Should you be driving if you're blind?

I am with dieselman on this. Your driving needs some serious revision. You were obviously not prepared correctly. And, before anyone asks, yes - I am a driving instructor. A police one!

me me me me me.

cycle paths - dont make me laugh.we have never invested in them properly.

how dare you have to brake eh.

you dont want them on a dual carriage way and then you bitch about them using a B road to avoid idoits like you on a dual carriageway. You inconsiderate muppet. go and find a piece of cake and eat it.

Sorry to say it dtr, but you come over as the sort of motorist who thinks he alone is entitled to road space and let anyone get in your way at their peril!! I agree with bigfatjim that your own driving attitudes might need some attention!
Roads are for cars, caravans, juggernauts, horse riders, tractors - and yes even cyclists with the proverbial death wish...they're all a blood* nuisance when they get in your way.
Where I live, driving is a daily ritual of avoiding cyclists, horse riders, joggers and the like. Patience is not a virtue - it's a necessity!
We all know that many cyclists get away with murder on the roads - but as others have said 'it is their funeral'.
I used to get as angry as you until I realised that the only blood pressure going through the roof was mine - think about it, lol.

I better not let my old man read this one.

I have no issue with cyclists on the road, as long as they ride in single file and abide by the traffic signs and the traffic lights :thumb:

But they never do, the muppets

and car users never jump lights, cut cyclists up, overtake where inappropriate, park illegally...blah blah.

as others have said a bit of live and let live would go a long way.

Someone get out of bed on the wrong side today?:p

Although, of course you are correct in your condemnation of selfish drivers, it seems to be a state of mind that this country has sleep walked into.

Just a little anecdote to those in a big rush to get everywhere....
A couple of years ago we had a load of work on in Wakefield and the route for us was the A638.
This road takes in about a dozen roundabouts before you get into Wakefield itself. We would drive along at the allotted speed limits with very little drama whilst being overtaken by every Tom, **** and Harry in a mad rush to get where they are heading. Who would we see at the next roundabout? Why, those that had just overtaken us at 20MPH above the roads speed limit! And it was always the same people every day!:wallbash:

I think he is just a bit fedup with the selfish fools that spout off on here when they don't know the law.

Cyclists have legal priority over cars, even if they take the whole lane by riding two abreast.

Every Cyclist does not take any notice of traffic lights, or they will bump up the pavement to get across the juction. Then putting pedestrians at risk

Maybe but I am a firm believer that cyclists should be taken aside and beaten with small sticks as punishment for their poor choice of transport.

I have no issue with cyclists on roads... as long as they have to abide by the same rules as everyone else...

I'm not talking just about the usual red lights, use the brakes, don't damage other people's properly then run off... but also the more basic things...

As such, I expect cyclists to have their vehicles taxed, tested and insured on an annual basis before they venture out onto a public road putting other's lives at risk. Oh, and let's not forget license plates on them to!

I ALWAYS stop at lights just as I would in a car !! Years ago I did my cycling 'test' and since then have been in the CTC and a member of a cycling club in which I raced in time trials.

Please its NOT all bike riders that ride badly, just as its not ALL car owners that drive badly.

I ride to work and the amount of cars especially coming up to roundabouts that slide past me right up to a line of cars all stationary waiting to go and then move in on 'my' gap as if to say your not getting passed?

Difficult to say without being there who was at fault, but reading the road on a bike or car you should never have to do an emergency stop unless someone literally runs out in your path.

As for bike paths..... are you having a laugh, In the UK generally bike riders come way down the list that seems to have any sort of priority. Now only if we had Hollands approach where the bike is king :)

Sometimes I do wonder if some people who post negative comments about bikes have ever riden one on the road? just to see how you are treated. Its a shame its probably the few that spoil it for us bike riders that do obey the laws.
