Damages on new C63 picked up from dealer

In most cases a 14 day cooling-off cancellation will occur long before the buyer takes delivery of the car, and in these circumstances the issue of usage is purely academic.

And MB do have a point when they say that cancelling the finance deal does not in itself cancel the contract to purchase the vehicle. The cooling-off period only applies to financial transactions - insurance, loans, etc - but not to purchase of goods.

I think your best bet is to let the delear repair the damage and leave it at that.

Think about it, if you bought a new car and parked it in the street and someone scratched the bonnet... what would you do? Repair it and live with it. You can't really own a car if you are unwilling to accept that it may get damaged and repaired while in your ownership.

I am not unsympathetic to your predicament... a couple of years ago some bright spark fell off his bicycles on top of my parked car, and the handlebar dug a hole in my bonnet.

I was very concerned that it would never be the same.... but I had it repaired and resprayed by Tony Fowkes who did a fantastic job matching the Obsidian Black paintwork. The car was sold last month with the bonnet still in pristine condition.

Tony I collected my new C-Class 200 Sport Premium 17 plate on 3rd March in my case the slaes person told me there was a scratch on the bonnet, see my thread here
Since then they offered me a respray and I wasn't too happy with that because in a few years it may well not match the front wings.
I took it to Petrolhead detailing where they managed to get the scratch out completly, but informed me and showed me under his special lighting there were numerous other blemishes around the car that I had not seen let alone the dealer or PDI inspection or even the final inspection in Germany.
Yesterday the sales manager has agreed to pay the detailing firm £400.00 to have a GTECHNIQ - NEW CAR PROTECTION job on my pride and joy. I am going to make up the difference as I was going to have this Ceramic coating done anyway.
To the dealer this is most likely cheaper for them than respraying the bonnet and they will lend me a courtesy car while it is away for two full days.

I do hope that the problems with your (what should be) pride and joy are resolved to your satisfaction. Good luck.

I'd be contacting Mercedes for under warranty replacement.

Just for it to happen again after you've driven the car for a month?
What then?
Keep getting replacement seats?

Just accept it's going to happen.

It's down to seat design and materials used.

It happened after 670 miles. Not 67,000. You bet I'd keep replacing them under warranty!

I think the photo makes it look worse than it is but yes it is worn and the passenger side is unmarked. I do recall noticing it almost immediately, thinking I will have to treat that leather as it wont last well but saying all that, I wasnt really bothered - but I will take another look when I next take the car out.

The reason for posting it was to make Tony feel better - i.e my seat is worn but I wasnt bothered (although I am now more bothered after that pic :))

It's leather and leather creases unless it's under tension. Leather shoes, coats, gloves, they all crease. It's what differentiates the real thing from vinyl.

What one does have to make sure is that the natural creases don't become filled with dirt and grease, making them look deeper and erm, 'dirty'. Eventually what will happen is the crease will become a crack in the PU coating of the leather.

Keep the leather clean with a routine wipe down with a damp cloth. Perhaps every couple of months a thorough clean with a 5% wool detergent solution should remove any grease build up.

Creased leather seats have character, a patina and look so much better than featureless vinyl IMHO

My understanding is that the 14 day cooling-off period starts from when you sign on the dotted line accepting the finance deal - not from when you actually take delivery of the car.

So unless you signed the on finance deal on the day of collecting the car (unlikely), then the cooling-off period most probably expired by now anyway.

That's not to reject the car, that's the get out of the finance deal without a penalty. Completely different

Just to close the loop - I took the car out today and had a good look at the seat and it is fine for me - the picture makes it look far worse - so no problem for me - anyway the rest of the car is beyond awesome to me at the moment so nothing can spoil the enjoyment :)

The saga continues.

I got the car back from the dealer today after they attempted another smart repair (carried out by the same guy who done it the first time) and the job is still not good. I can still see the extra layer of paint on the edge of the panel and a crack of paint. I pointed these out to the sales person and he agreed the job is still not good. He insisted that I take the car with me and he will send the same smart repairer around my house for the third time.

He said failing that, they would have to give the car to their approved repairer Hilton Coachworks Coachworks | Manufacturer-Approved Repairs | Hilton Coachworks to spray a bigger area into the driver side panel which would involve dropping the bottom panel (breaking the seal joining the panel with the body). This sounds very catastrophic to me. So far they never had to spray into the main panel of the car because the original stone chip damage was on the inside of the door frame.

What do you think I should do at this point? Should I just let them do whatever neccesary to fix the damage to my satisfaction even if it may sound catastrophic to me what they are proposing to do? Can I trust this Hilton Coachworks to do a proper job? Also does this respray of the panel affect the Mercedes paintwork warranty?

Thanks

I do feel for you, collecting a new car is a big deal to most people and you want everything to be perfect.

When I collected mine last year around 2 miles from dealership a warning message came up and I had to return, they changed some sensors and did not resolve the issue so I returned the following week and it turned out to be sensor requiring calibration.

Compared to your problems mine was nothing.

It's really your decision but personally I would go with a repair until you are satisfied.

The least you should get from the dealership is a free first service. (I did)
