Does anyone use one of these... I bought the Halfords
http://www.halfords.com/opd_product_details.asp?id=16654&type=0&cat=113

Power unit basically to keep son happy, playing his playstation in the back of the car. This plugs into the lighter socket in front of the arm console

Now my problem... on a test run, his playstation keeps turning its self off. The AC unit should bleep if there is a problem with power surges etc. The light stays on the AC unit and has to be switched on/off. When the car is stationary, it works fine... when I throttle it a bit the I get the problem

There is an earth ground wing nut on the back... and it says in the leaflet that the car should be earthed... which I presume...is.

Don’t know if I should try a surge protection plug on the playstation, just incase its a little sensitive

Also just wondering if the AC unit is powerfull enough its only 120W

Edit Note
The official PS2 slimline power unit is not available yet and a i cant use the original PS2 converter.

If it is supplying 120W, what is it drawing through the lighter / power socket? It will probably be in excess of 10 amps.

If it is more than 10 amps, then perhaps this is causing a breaker circuit in the car's power supply to cut power to the socket in order to protect it from overload.

The input current will be on a lebel on the power supply. The max current for the power socket iseither written on the socket cover or listed in the handbook.

I use a converter in my car but have no problems - but it is not that powerful.

Thanks for this Philip.

PS2 Output 5.65amps
and the screen 1.5amps (18Watts). So this should cover both. I'll do another test run next weekend.
