Recently my indicator switch would not stay on when indicating right, so I went to an independent garage for a quote, £125 quoted all in,as I was having some work done at the main dealer I asked for a quote for same job, £135 quoted to supply & replaced. £10 difference for a main dealer I thought not bad, so I gave them the go ahead. Final bill £225.58 this included £31.20 short test & £31.20 electrical system test.
I didn't have the heart to argue with them so I left and thought never again.

I take it they didn't inform you of these tests and the cost? I wouldn't have paid and argued the toss!!

I think pretty well every time I take one of our cars to a dealer I have a row with them over the bill (with the honourable exception of the Honda dealer we use).

With my MB, it's on ServicePlus (expires today :weep: ) so there's been nothing to pay, but instead we have a row about the work that they didn't bother to do.

I so wish cars could be sealed for life!

I'll bet they start doing it now :D

surely they have to ask permission to do any work on your vehicle,

By law they are not allowed to do this and have to return it to the condition it was in prior to the repair.
For an electrical test this is hard to do, so I'd ring them and see if they offer anything.

I had the same with a watch with omega a few years ago, they serviced it when all I wanted was a repair, I said I didn care and wanted it returning to the state it was in, in the end I got the service for free. Glad they didn't try to un oil the gears etc.
