Newly bough C200 (98) needs the bonnet and the wings (at the very least) re-sprayed.

Have spoken to the aproved MB body shop in the area and quoted £800 + VAT for both front wings, bonnet and the colur inserts on bumpers front and back for an extra £100 + Vat

So just over £1000 ish all told

Was expecting around the £6-700 mark, but thought that was a wee bit expensive!!

Anyone in Surrey/Sussex used a body shop that they can a) recommend and b) is a bit more reasonably priced.

I understand the get what you pay for, but also believe that price doesn't always guarantee quality.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!!

Hi Mel,

Congratulations on the new car mate!

I have a friend next to Brands Hatch who can do a good job at a good price. Let me know if interested and I'll introduce you :)

Proper bodyshop and not a dodgy outfit.

Cheers,
Steve

Hello mate

Good to hear from you again......the wheels I bought from you for the ole C180 have held up well friend.

I have got a guy locally (Crawley) coming around to look and give me a price Tuesday morning, so will be interesting to see how he compares with the MB aproved quote.

Would like to talk to your man as well, but don't want to waste his time and if the local guy gives me a nicer price then I will use him.

Would be curious if what your guy (without seeing the car obviously, so won't hold him to it) would aprox estimate for the same....respray bonnet, both wings and the 2 bumper inserts.

Would ideally want the whole car done, but was told best part of £2,500....which isn't worth it obviously.

There are a couple of other panels....namely the two rear wings that I am also keen to ket sorted also, but again, cost is an issue.

Interested to hear from the MB aproved place that there should be a clear plastic 'spacer' between the metal wing and the plastic bumper to stop the abbrasive action which causes the rust on the wing over a period of time.....so obviously mine has seen some action and had the rear bumper removed at some point and these spacers not replaced.

If your guy would be happy to give a ball park figure for the same work as I've been quoted, would be very intrested....and also for the additional 2 panels (both rear wings).

Cheers again mate
