Been procrastinating about it for a while now.

Whipped them off and gave them a wash in warm water and Auto glym shampoo, then a scrub with kitchen scourer to get the tar deposits off, then a quick run over with a can of autosol that I found in my shed.

Made a massive difference, but could probably do with a proper polish with the polisher :D

This is what they looked like before

After a wash

Before and after

The marks inside were staring to come off but need a lot more work, will have to go at them with the soft wire brush attachment and the drill

I need to do the same with mine! How do you take the tips of from the car? I have a cls 55 AMG ?

Some are screwed but others are riveted or welded. You would think it is easy with a screw but extreme heat and damp weld them on! :D

One allen key bolt on each side on mine, easy to get off, but a bit of a pig to get back on.

I had a go at removing the one from our C230 and gave up! Slackened off the bolt but could not get it to shift.

It's not in bad condition but obviously they are a pain to work on while grovelling on the floor :D

looks fab!! need to get around to mines sometime soon :)

Great work. There is an Autosmart product called Tardis, that makes light work of tar removal.

Another vote for Tardis here - brilliant stuff for tar removal

Tried to get my tips off the ML, loosened the allen bolt but couldn't get the swines off

Heat and dirt will make it a tough job!!

I did say earlier that some are also spot welded

Mine really need cleaning but they just keep getting black even within a week when its ready for its normal clean...

Is that just as the truck must smoke a lot :(

I love a shiny pipe !! :)

Some AMG 55's do smoke on start up and therefore blacken the exhaust. I usually let it cool a little and wipe with a damp cloth

I always give my exhausts a clean after a good run just to stay on top of it being clean!

OK so I cleaned mine...

No before but they were proper black and looked pretty bad. Almost to the point I doubt the could be saved...

Off the car..

I doubt they will look like this for long.... but a lot lot better
