Looking at a replacement reg for when the E55 goes, as F10 AMG is staying on the car.

The one I've found is a 3 letter then three number type - is there anyway of finding out how old it is and where it was issued etc?

Just being geeky - it doesn't really matter :o

Yep - need a more family friendly car for the wife to drive y'see :)

Not a fan of the ML in the price bracket I can afford - new shape yes, old shape no.

A new shape ML500 would be in your budget?

Almost as quick as the ML63 on paper and no doubt you could add some goodies?

There is a place to check your plates but I've forgotten where....will have a think :)

The age letter (appended at the end) was brought in from 1963.

Two and three letter + digits were used prior to then.

There is a list of registrations and areas here:

Allocation of vehicle registration marks

Have you still got the plate in your pic?

use that?

The second and third characters of the three letter group indicate the county where the plate was issued . If you care to post the letters , I can tell you the county of origin .

Dating is less precise , unfortunately . When they ran out of numbers , some counties went to four digits - late '50s/early '60s

Thanks guys :)

I've sold 6 DCW - to Devon Contract Waste to go on a dustcart!

New plate is XLR 797 - doesn't mean anything, but I like it!

I'm only looking at spending £19 - 23k on the next car, so that's old shape money I think. Plus I have always lusted after an X5 :D

NewReg used to have this facility on their website that told you issue date and area etc. I can't find it anymore on their site. Was on my old favourites list on my laptop which packed up :(

Shame your letting the 55 go with all the work you've put into it. If i had the cash i'd be banging your door down.

Scorcher - your E55 website isn't working

Works ok for me?

Most odd - works fine in Firefox but not IE8

Edit: IE8 was refreshing sites I already had open but would not open new sites (either never visited or from history) I restarted IE8 and all is well. :dk:

Can you tell me where JBG was issued please ?

Thank you kind sir !

How about VOR ? ;)

If you had taken the trouble to look at the link in Dryce's useful post #5 you would see that LR in a common or garden London County Council reg.

A high number and an X suggests one of the last before they went over to letter suffixes, so probably 1961 - 1962.
