Deciphering an old reg plate

If you had taken the trouble to look at the link in Dryce's useful post #5 you would see that LR in a common or garden London County Council reg.

A high number and an X suggests one of the last before they went over to letter suffixes, so probably 1961 - 1962.

Not sure if it does, my 1964 mini was 46 VHY, letters after numbers.

I have two, One owned from New in 1957 VNA 95 and one I have just acquired with a chassis CKE 199 again from 1957, but I cant work out from the link where they came from?

It would appear from the site that in the absence of italics in the third final marks column, the last theoretical London number would have been YLR 999.

Bristol numbers appear to have continued using letter suffixes through to around 1965.

That would make sense as our familly was in haulage in 1957 based in Manchester. Thanks.
