Hi

I thought i was having Deja Vu on Saturday whilst changing the front springs of my 317000 mile 210 E Class estate. Almost 4 years later both were again broken and required fixing. This time i fitted the sacrificial anode thing at the bottom just as GordonTarling had mentioned in my thread previously.

So here are the broken springs this time and the sacrificial plates.

Hoping these ones last longer.

Both broke at the exact same place.

were the springs the stock ones ?

They always go just there, irrespective of anodes or not.

They lasted 40,000 miles. They have been broken for about a year, even passed the MOT with the break. Only got round to fixing them at the weekend because i was doing a few odd jobs before taking the car to France for Easter, she was starting to wear the inside of the tyres due to camber being off.

On Saturday I fitted 2 front springs, ARB drop links, front Brake pads, drive bely belt shock absorber and pilot bush on the gearbox.

it's abnormal for springs to break twice and in so little time...

How old are the dampers? Worn dampers will cause greater spring compression and stress.

I blame the roads ! have had all springs done on my wife's 2001 Mondeo in the 7 years that we have had it, and she only does about 6k miles per year, but had the front ones replaced twice, second lot were only about 15 months after first replacement, which I eventually got done for free after arguing with my mechanic that an EU law means that everything should have a 2 year warranty/guarantee !
Anyway, with our roads having so many potholes, and basically, any road that is not on a bus route, has speed bumps, and this, I feel, is putting a much heavier use on all suspension parts, not just springs, but bushes and such like !
Great if you have you own auto repair business ! :(
